I can't make any sense out of the NET ratings system.
I think it really puts a lot of weight on road wins and it seems it doesn’t really matter who that road team is that you beat.
Duke jumped up after beating Syracuse. Syracuse is pretty awful.
Heck, I bet uNC jumped way up after their eeked out 2 point win over quad 4 Notre Dame last night.

Do my eyes deceive me? UK is ranked higher than Duke in the net rankings. After last nights win, the Cats moved up to 29 from 35. Duke is 30 moving down from 29. The world is righteous once again.
We also have a higher SOS, OOC SOS, better record in Quad 1 wins and yet they are seeded 2-3 lines higher than we are in most projections. 🙄

Agreed. The thing that drives me nuts are the quad wins. As I understand it if you beat a quad 1 team in November and by February they are quad 2, you no longer get the quad 1 win.

Makes no sense to me....IMHO it should just be what it is when you play them and that's it. Quads cannot possibly factor in injuries, etc.

I was listening to Lunardi a couple of weeks ago when he still had UNC in his bracket. One of the announcers asked him why he still had them making the tourney. He said it wasn't that he believed they belonged but what he thought the committee would do because of UNC's name recognition. So basically he was saying the committee was biased and didn't always put the teams who deserved to be there in the tournament.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Name recognition is probably a "hidden" variable in NET rankings. There's no such thing as true objectivity in seeding.

The problem with what someone is ranked in Net when you play them is the that model will not be accurate at all early in the season when it doesn’t have enough data. Also what would you do for everyone’s first game of the season when no team has any metrics going into it.

Not sure, they don't pay me to figure it out 🤣.
I get what you are saying, I just think it is moronic to have a quad 1 and then it tanks a week or two later because a team goes cold or something.

It certainly isn't a perfect system, seems broken tbh.

Yeah it’s odd to try and follow. At the end of the day, none of it really matters- the committee will seed based off of match ups, storylines, and ratings.

What a difference 8 days makes. We all woke up 8 days ago with Kentucky around 40 NET with 1 quad 1 win coming off a loss to Georgia in our previous game and pretty much most everyone saying Kentucky was in the first 4 out.

8 days later we wake up today with 5 quad 1 wins and a NET of 29 and pretty much everyone saying Kentucky is a near lock for the tournament short of a complete disaster ending of losing like 4 straight.

What we really need is Duke to hang around 30 or below so it UNC beats them the final game they drop to below 30 NET and UNC only gets a quad 2 win out of it.
