2010: Scheyer was an all-American. Smith was very good and was an all-American the next year. Singler played in the NBA.That's where I think you are wrong on "elite talent"
In 2017 we had Elite talent...but 3 players were "elite". We were missing reliable play from the front court and options on the bench. We had holes on that team and that kept them from reaching that next level.
This year we do not have holes and we have really talented players 1 through 10. I'll take that over 3 elite players. This team is elite because they have 2 options at every position...they have every attribute you need for a team.
-Duke in 2010. A few NBA Contributors...but no stars....solid top to bottom rosters
-UConn in 2011. Kemba carried them...but outside of him they weren't particularly deep with elite players
-Kentucky in 2012. This team had elite talent and won it all. Balanced team for sure
-Louisville in 2013. Experience but not a lot of star power. Good players top to bottom. No player I'd consider elite
-UConn in 2014. A miraculous run...to be honest Florida was the best team all year and did not have elite talent either...just balanced.
-Duke in 2015...#1 Class but they were a deep team...Okafor was elite...Winslow is great too
-Villinova in 2016....talented team top to bottom with no holes
-UNC in 2017*** Depth and talent all over the roster....no player id consider elite
-Villinova in 2018...see 2016
The teams that won did well because they were talented top to bottom. Anthony Davis has been THE ONLY superstar with ELITE talent to win the title. Okafor at the time was considered...but he's shown to be a bust.
So why is your take better than mine? He's been at Kentucky a decade. That's no time historically. Get outta here with that hot take ********.
Stay healthy and I think it happens. Hagans, Green, and Quickley in a title-level backcourt. Three very talented leaders. Throw in two dogs like PJ/Keldon and a proven interior player like Travis (plus depth).
Hard not to dream about a title. It's all there.
2010: Scheyer was an all-American. Smith was very good and was an all-American the next year. Singler played in the NBA.
2011: Kemba was an all-American and several of the other players were good and played in the NBA.
2013: Russ was an all-american and there were at least a few other NBA guys on that team.
2014: Napier was an all-american
2015: Ohkafor was an all-American, multiple guys still in the NBA.
Villanova and UNC have multiple all-Americans and pros over the last few years.
We don’t have someone who is considered a sure fire NBA stud. We don’t even have anyone who I’m confident in being a consensus all-American.
You seem to be arguing we could rather than we should, which I agree with. The deck is not nearly stacked enough in our favor for me to say we should.
Stanford has sucked since Travis has been there. He puts up numbers, we’ll find out how good he actually is. You’re being optimistic with PJ.Based on his stats being on a highly ranked team Reid can be an AA. P.J. can absolutely be and A.A. this year. Plus one of our freshman always plays at a level that puts them in the discussion and we are not short on NBA picks.
I don't care if it takes 40-0 or 30-10 to get there...anything less than a title and your expectations are too low. We come close to winning titles with all-freshman sometimes...imagine having multiple experienced guys....one being a SENIOR STUD!
Its title or bust for me because of 2015...that team needed a title. Yes they made a Final Four and were great...but it stings knowing they did not win it all. 2012 was a title or bust because of 2010 stinging so bad. We need this title.
We have
-A 5th year Senior leader who averaged close to 20 & 10 in a power conference
-3 returning starters/rotation players from last years team (all 3 were 5-star players)
-A new crop of 5 stars who were the #2 class in the country
-Depth and options at every position
-Post versatility...rebounding and scoring
-Length
-Speed and athleticism
-Pure point guard play
-3-point shooting
Its TIME
C-A-T-S CHAMPS CHAMPS CHAMPS
I could argue about our guys but then you'll pull the "we really don't know because we haven't seen these guys play"2010: Scheyer was an all-American. Smith was very good and was an all-American the next year. Singler played in the NBA.

This year either cements Cals legacy as one of the greats or he takes over the mantel of “ the coach that had the most talent and did little with it” from Dean Smith. It’s up to Cal. I also think a bust this year will bring more heat on Cal
I think that is just an opinion.Because it's well-reasoned and contains context, perspective and rational thought.
We have seen already that K is not even close to Cal in the ability to recruit and coach up OAD players. K will struggle this year as well. OAD is not K's strength.I would think Coach K would be too after that amazing class last year. Plus wouldn’t you agree K did a horrible coaching job with that class?
I wouldn't go that far.
Lots of unproven kids that we need big minutes from. Richards has to make the leap and be our rim protector. Travis and Washington are a bit redundant and they're probably our two best players. We have one true 3 on the roster and overlap at guard.
We're really good. And we have great depth. But there's no Anthony Davis level guy on this roster and the freshmen have to pan out.
With a ridiculous schedule this year, a 1/2 seed isn't a guarantee. And if you fall below that line your road can get dicey.
I'll say I expect an Elite 8, believe in a Final 4, and think we've got a real chance at a title.
We have had a bunch of guys who could put up 20 ppg if they were on bad teams and could shoot a lot.I could argue about our guys but then you'll pull the "we really don't know because we haven't seen these guys play"
I've seen what Calipari can do with talent and experience.
We are bringing in one of the best seniors in the country in Reid Travis. How often have we seen a player here average 20 ppg...? Monk, Murray, and Meeks....averaging 20 a game in college against a major conference schedule is hard.
PJ Washington would have been drafted this year....not first round but was a high 2nd rounder...thats pretty talented.
Quade was a good player as a freshman....you don't think he will be much better?
Richards could arguably be our 8th-10th man off the bench and he's a 7 footer with potential that started all last season.
Not to mention Jemarl Baker....a luxury that could end up being a sold contributor off the bench if he is the real deal.
Add in the #2 class....which is a close #3 behind a class that brought in the 3 top players....and our freshman generally perform well under Calipari.
EJ, Keldon, Hagans, Quckley, and Herro...and guess what....we dont need all of them to be great...odds are that we have a few really good ones in that group.

For everyone else, it remains to be seen, but it definitely doesn’t seem to be expected.
Now see!! If we try hard enough we can find something we can agree on.I totally agree with you on that.
The dude has yet to hit even 30% from 3 or 70% from the ft line. Expecting him to suddenly become even average is very optimistic.sTravis has the handles and potential as a shooter to at least hit 34%. They could be a similar duo to Nova last year with Paschell and Spellman. Better duo talent but not as good shooter since Spellman shot over 40% if I’m not mistaken. Also remember UNC won it with Meeks and Hicks down low and neither of them could stretch the floor. If you use them the right way (coaching) things could work out very well.
Stanford was going to suck again, no way he’s an all-American if he stays, much less POY.They were All Americans AFTER the season. How many of them were AllAmericans before the season.....which means they are in the same category as UK right now correct? If you go check you will find that UK is in a better starting point as far as where those guys started in the preseason. Oak was probably the only preseason AA. Reid was already going to start out on ge preseason AA list before deciding to transfer and he was also going to be on the preseason POY short list according to all the respected college basketball sports media
Not necessarily. There are plenty of players whose ceiling is “good stats on a bad team”. They put up numbers but don’t actually improve how much your team wins. Not saying that’s Travis, but it’s a possibility. So wouldn’t that mean he will be even better now since he won’t have to worry about being doubled and tripled every single game? Also add in going from being coached by J.Hass to being coached by Cal!!!
Nothing he could have done against the rooferee short of a homicide on national TV.Bad luck? I submit he didn’t coach well enough.
We had the lead with what, 5 minutes left? The appropriate officiating complaints are all based on what happened in the 1st half. They made some plays down the stretch and we didn’t.Nothing he could have done against the rooferee short of a homicide on national TV.
We might have had a lead if not for the first half calls, UNC may not have been in position to make the plays. Those calls still count and determined the outcome, it set the stage for what did happen. We had the lead with what, 5 minutes left? If all fouls were erased and reset to zero at halftime, you would have a point. Unfortunately, the fouls carry over to the second half and effect the rest of the game.We had the lead with what, 5 minutes left? The appropriate officiating complaints are all based on what happened in the 1st half. They made some plays down the stretch and we didn’t.
