Yeah but those guys actually were good and had success. Pernetti hired flood and Rice. Usually they want you to be good at something to give you a second chance lol
Exactly. Pernetti’s pals have no facts on their side so they just make stuff up about him getting us into the Big Ten. Laughably false.

Pernetti was key in Rutgers' admission into Big Ten
. Pernetti's background in television helped him forge a relationship dating back to the late 1990s with Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany, who was impressed by the young athletic director's drive.
"He said, 'Let's keep talking,' " Delany said at the Nov. 20 news conference. "There was no real beginning to the conversation. This is a conversation that played out over three or four years, me keeping him apprised of how we were thinking, and him keeping me apprised of how Rutgers was thinking."

Lol . I guess pernetti could woo Delany , but he couldn’t woo a decent coach!

Another puff piece said
No one, I repeat no one, is owed a debt of gratitude by Rutgers more than Pernetti. The move to the Big Ten is the biggest thing to happen to RU football since they invented college football in 1869.

The issue was Pernetti was not prepared for the media fallout..no plan in place. He knew the tape would come out and that is on him. No plan

Pernetti kept the lines of communication open and established a good relationship, while making sure Delany was reminded about how the #1 Media Market would be a boon to the B1GN and future TV rights negotiations when they are due
Bob got the ball rolling
Greg moved the ball into scoring position.
Tim followed through and made the Goal

You mean the manufactured scandal based on a half hour video made from hundreds of hours of practice time by a disaffected former contractor who was trying to extort money from the school? The one based on basketballs being thrown at players feet to get them to move and colorful language that those who have played sports would consider mild from a coach? That only became a scandal months after it had already been handled internally and only came to light because that contractor took it to the media? A scandal promoted by the Star Ledger who had an axe to grind with Tim Pernetti? The same paper that printed half-truths and outright lies to get the prior athletic directory, Bob Mulcahy, fired? A scandal that the school refused to get ahead of and let the Star Ledger and other media drive? Yeah, that was a scandal that ranked right up there with point shaving, pay for play, harboring pedophiles and molesters, running a fake class program for athletes, etc. And let's not forget the school president who refused to deal with issue when it first arose, refused to even view the video (or claimed he didn't), let general counsel dictate to Pernetti what he could do, then threw Pernetti under the bus to appease the media rabble-rousers.

*** Yeah. Spot on!

Tim hates everything about Rutgers now and openly roots for us to lose. Time to move on from him.
Not quite sure where you get that...have you ever spoken to Tim since he left?
Believe me, he wasn’t exactly happy about what happened and how it happened but he still supports Rutgers and has been there for many players after they graduate...
Strange how people come up with this stuff

You and I live in the same area. Let's just say this comes from first hand knowledge. I actually like Tim, but let's agree to disagree on his support of Rutgers now.

The way people remember history here is just amazing. If Greg works out 10 years from now, Hobbs will get the credit as our greatest AD ever for hiring Pike and Greg. If Greg doesn't work out, people will blame Hobbs for hiring Ash and Greg . In actuality, Hobbs had VERY LITTLE say in hiring either one, the same way Tim did the best in hiring both Flood and Rice given the timing and resources at his disposal

There are people that get it and then there are the others that keep defending pernetti for some odd reasons .
This thread is at a stalemate .

That odd reason being that we are in the AAC if Pernetti isn't AD. I can fully defend all his decision making but that is irrelevant compared to the previous sentence

There are people who realize the value of Tim Pernetti, and there are people who hate him with an unholy passion because he he slept with their lover or pissed in their cornflakes or didn't get off their lawn or something.

Any halfway competent AD gets us in.

You dont know that, and as History has played out, there has been ZERO conference expansion since we got in. Tim certainly did nothing to hurt our chances (Julie would have) and some/most would argue that if Mulcahy was our AD we still get in.

Bottom line is, love him or hate him, Tim was /is a very accomplished media executive, who used that knowledge to help convince the BIG that Rutgers would give the BIG a bigger share of the NY market and for that reason alone, we are in the BIG.

Flood was probably the best football coach we’ve had in decades (yes, don’t @ me) and Rice was a great coach you lost his job b/c of a disgruntled assistant.

Can’t fault either hire

@mikemarc1 Please don't let facts get in the way of a angry mob. It wasn't so long ago that Flood started the season 7-0 and bought us the closest we might ever come to a New Years Bowl We had an exciting offense, Flood made little if any head scratching calls ( pretty damn good for a first time coach) and the players LOVED him. Also agreed that Mike Rice would have gotten us to the dance if not for the assinine way the whole thing was handled. All of the above on a shoestring budget, so you can blame the coaches for trying to bring a knife to a gunfight

Water under the bridge now, couldn't be happier where we are now and where we are heading
