We had NBA players two deep so you can't do it like us.
The decision to use platoons or not has nothing to do with the absolute talent level & everything to do with the relative talent levels between the players on the team (and more specifically between players at the same position.)
If you’re truly two-deep at every position, the talent levels are largely equivalent and the players are willing to sacrifice for the good of the team, then it makes perfect sense to platoon.
Doesn’t matter whether you’re talking about a grade school team or an NBA all-star game.
What made UK’s 2014-15 team so notable was the players were already elite college players. The platoons allowed them to perform at a level higher than they otherwise would have, which meant they were performing at a level rarely (if ever) seen in the history of college basketball.
If you’re a average college team and can platoon that should allow you to perform at a higher level than you otherwise would. Doesn’t mean you’ll be anywhere close to as effective as UK in 2014-15 but still worth the effort.
