Watched the game and was there at Rupp, so, as most of you know, you get more of a sense in person for athleticism for both teams. First, two freshmen guards led us in scoring against a team well-suited to guard us, but ISU didn't do a great job of that. Two, our defense once again on the perimeter was pretty darn good for this far into the season. It was good down low as well. Three, more than any other year, we are going to see some real instances of parity in college basketball. There are more people now, and many more good basketball players spread around the country. Illinois State is a collection of very good players, and though they lack some height, are a good team (who Cal says will be in the tournament). Finally, it is still early, but in my view we have a first-team All-American and a great supporting cast for our young team (so yes, our team DOES HAVE A CLUE) and they are now arguably the one of the best teams in the nation (a nice thing since their returning about 15% from last year and in some cases look in mid-season form). Let's take more samples before we start putting them in one category or another.
