And you accused me of not watching any games.

So why do you think coach played Issa then? He had NW -1.5? What's your explanation?
Your argument is circular. We agree Pike went with what he thought was the best lineup. the “why do you think Pike played him” does nothing except say the coach is never wrong. We are fans and many of us think coach made the wrong decision.

the fact that someone knows more than me in a certain area doesn’t ever mean they’re never wrong.

We don’t agree Pike went with the best lineup. He went with what he thought was the best defensive lineup.

Yeah, and I and others think he was wrong. You seem to think he was right based upon his being coach.

I take your first sentence to mean you think he went with the best lineup.

No. I’d rather see Harper Jr. or Kiss or McConnell. I have thought Issa was not ready for this level well before it was a consensus opinion.

Okay, but if neither of us think he went with the best lineup, then we agree, not disagree, yes?

Biggest problem I see is the unwillingness to get the ball inside. That’s coaching. Early in the game our bigs had great position but the guards just swing the ball on the outside.

If you watched the game, every post pass draws a double team from the weakside....you simply cannot get the ball inside unless the player has a size advantage or an ability to face the defender and make a pass. You cannot post up in college basketball unless the bigs have mobility to get around their defenders quickly.

The game requires a skill set in the low post. And if you guard the post like RU does, without double teams, you have to have quickness to close out on shooters, if the big can make a pass play from the post.

These are not coaching related items, it comes down to playmaking, experience and talent from the bigs or whomever is posting up. The reason why there were so many positive things about Myles Johnson was his passing ability. But Myles fouls a lot and wasn't able to keep up with Pardon, so he couldn't play as much.

On the surface, a lot of the freshman have performed to the levels many expected. I think in some cases, players like Mathis have elevated from 6th or 7th man in the rotation to bonafide contributor.

The main reason teams are doubling our post players is they know we can't make shots from the outside. At least not in bunches. We have no consistent shooters from the outside. Kiss is a head scratcher. He seems like a player that can get on a roll and make five threes in row but needs to feel it and take twenty threes. We are not a run and gun offense. The volume of shots are not there. We do not have the horses for that type of offense. RU is more half court sets and we rely on defense to keep scores in the low 60s. So who do you rely upon in a tight game to pull out a victory: a player with no offensive confidence to shoot the ball and who is long with some quickness (Thiam) or a player with the confidence to shoot the ball but doesn't make shots without volume and less defensive ability (Kiss).

We have flawed players on the rosters that will most likely get recruited over.

We should welcome the double team. The problem is the lack of movements and spacing. Absolutely coaching related. Our guards can’t turn the corner and passing it around the perimeter or the high screen isn’t working. This is why we always end up with a terrible shot as the shot clock runs out.

And teams arent doubling "down." They're doubling with a second big. Myles had Shaq at the foul line but rushed and threw too hard and high to handle. That's the play we have to make. And agree that Myles has a lot of trouble maintaining balance against weight.

I forgot the arguement.

I think I was sticking up for the coach and saying he went with the team he thought defended best. After the debacle the past 2 games (maybe 2 1/2 if you add NW 1st half) I can see why he would do that. I even make a thread before the game saying we need to go back to basics and play our best defensive team

I think the team has spent part of the last 3 practices working on when the bigs are doubled. Pikiell will fix it and I expect overtime to see less of it.
