him bein adamant about keeping issa in when it was evident he was KILLING us on the defensive end effectively ended the game. Any time issa guarded #14 he was getting wide open and hitting 3’s. The narrative that issa is a good defender is complete BS. Hes awful on the defensive end, ive said it before and ill say it again

Unfortunately, he played Issa in crunch time....you can't hide incomplete players in this league. Terrible job by staff not having kids drive late to get to the line, settled for too many jumpers in double bonus.

Issa just can't play anymore for my eyes....not tough enough and doesn't want to defend either. Bolt him to the bench!!

End-of-year Big Ten highlights will feature a lot of Thiam. Tons of shots going up over his outstretched arms five feet away.
He also gets shook and gets off balance sooo damn much and gets shots just drilled in his face continually. And loose balls hes just never ready for or willing to fight for them. I mean, I feel bad for the kid. Seems like a realllly nice kid but just not a big ten basketball player. Hes gotta wear his warmups the rest of the year and then get souf’d

We have open ship this year that Pike couldn't fill. Not too bullish on his ability to replace Thiam with someone meaningfully better.

Agree with all that’s been said about Issa/Pike. I’ll add that against this team we should have pushed the ball—Montez, Ron, and Geo are all more effective that way than in the half court. And we get to the line, maybe hit a couple of rhythm 3s.

57 pts is alternative.

Coach went with the lineup he thought could do the best job defensively. After the debacles on the defensive end the past 2 games I can't blame him. He had to right the ship defensively because that is the identity of the team.

Yes it was Issa who didnt get thru the screen twice, but I know Pike thinks that defensively Issa is on of the best 5.

Disagree. Caleb was atrocious tonight. The worst game he’s played as a knight. Harper was decent at best.

If pike should be blamed for burying someone it should be for kiss who was actually giving us good minutes. Thiam has no business covering 14 and no business playing the minutes he did. That we can definitely agree on.

Our biggest problem is Geo. He has been bad in almost every facet of the game and it’s so disappointing to see. Turns the ball over way too much. Misses wide open shots (terribly tonight). Doesn’t get us into sets effectively. Doesn’t penetrate. Settles for step backs and off balanced fades. He needs to turn it around or it’s going to be a long year.

Using your logic, evaluating Issa based on how #14 scored then you could also say that Issa held #14 to less points (14pt) than he scored on Michigan the #2 ranked team in the country when NW played Michigan 5 days ago, and against Michigan #14 shot 50% from the field & 57% from 3p while tonight #14 was 5-13 (38%) & 3p (44%), so I doubt before tipoff that many would’ve predicted that #14 would score less points tonight’s & shoot 12% worse both from the field and 3p but Issa played horrible?! ‍♂️

We need player turnover and a big recruiting class but right now we only have one player coming in. Some players have to be “Soufed” away.
There are two new players ,Young and Mulcahy.I agree that a couple transfers ,5th year players, is needed that are shooters to give the team a pulse on offense. The coaching staff has to evaluate the entire squad and determine which ones should transfer.

I just want to know does the coach ever look at say the last 10 game stats to see who is scoring, shooting well, etc? Cause what we do on offense..for such a big tall team seems opposite of our stats.

So far I think there are more misses than finds so far. I really hope that changes next year. Next year better be a leap forward or its same old.

Man do I miss Corey Sanders. We needed his identity and leadership bad this year.

And you accused me of not watching any games.

So why do you think coach played Issa then? He had NW -1.5? What's your explanation?
@Greene Rice FIG do you think issa’s played good D this year? Ive been saying all year that I thought he was an awful all around player and this narrative “well he plays good D” was ridiculous. He gets put on his heels and shook for 3’s all day, he gets overpowered when people drive. He gets walked down to the rim in the post. Theres literally not one thing he does well. Well, I take that back, he throws good ball fakes

Who were the alternatives?

McConnell who had 4 TO and didn't appear confident
Myles Johnson who defended poor inside
Harper who took some bad shots on offense and hasn't been a good defender
Kiss who has struggled shooting and has been a poor defender.

Given the outcome of the game being largely due to Issa being a non factor offensively coupled with the 2 big lapses defensively of course Pikiell will wish he did something different. He would still tell you that against NW today he had his best defensive lineup on the floor AND we had to erase the stink defensively of the past 2 games.

He is a willing defender and is long and has been effective at times. My memory not the best right now, but there were games he played good defensively and had a boost in the outcome.

He has very poor lateral quickness and he is not a good defensive rebounder (part of defense in my mind). Is he our best defensive 3? absolutely. Is that a knock on our roster? ABSOLUTELY. Is Ron Harper Jr. ready to play more than 15 MPG in B1G? don't think so

Issa was awful. The guys you name have some plus side—even if it’s often willingness to get in the mix. To see Issa as a non-factor offensively goes far beyond points scored. He doesn’t know how to cut or rebound or dribble or see the floor. We dont disagree but that Pike “thought” he had the best team on the floor, we’re fans and we have opinions—my opinion is that he didnt have the best team on the floor.

Who would you have put on #14-Taylor instead of Issa that would’ve been more effective because Issa didn’t start and Taylor scored 8 points in the 1st 10 minutes of the game or to put another way #14-Taylor only scored 6 points after the minute 7:47 in the 1st half.

So I think Pike decided to slow down Taylor, which is what happened with him only scoring 6 points for the rest of the game.

Not to mention, Issa was the only Rutgers player to make a 3p in the 2nd half.

Ron harper is better in all facets. Ron harper better defender as well. Name me one thing issa does better than ron. Just one

I wouldve put either harper or caleb on him, simple. I sat first row tonight 103, Row A. Taylor wasnt doing shiiiiiit with any other player on him besides issa or kiss

Rutgers will not win another Big Ten game this season

You can't lose at home to Northwestern

Pathetic
If Rutgers is ever going to compete in either FB or MBB we are going to have to recruit at a much higher level.
I think the jury on Ash is already out.
I am hoping that Pike gets the job done.
But when it really comes down to it, to overcome this perpetual state of
losing, we probably will need an infusion of winning.
The only solution to that is to convince proven winning coaches to come here. I know it's a broken record, but it seems to be the only realistic way out of this never ending mess.

Pike is a proven winning coach. Give him some time. Our best players besides Omoruyi are all underclassmen.

Pike is loyal to his older guys maybe too much. I’m ok with that. This year wasn’t going to be the one unless you’re delusional and ongoing down was a killer.

Harper took a couple of bad shots, but he at least can grab a rebound and start a play in transition.....there was a 2 on 1 opportunity where Issa had the ball on the right and NW has 10+ team fouls....He slowed up to the 3 point line because he's not capable of attacking the rim or drawing contact.

Pike cannot play Thiam if he's not going to run through and around screens. The defense tonight was Mathis, Doorson and a mix of Carter trying but we played a team without a lead guard.

If you had 3 classes in the row of Mathis, Harper, Carter, Young and McConnell skills and talent, you can live with the growing pains. But this was not Maryland or Michigan draining 3s, it was a grad transfer where Mathis could have stopped him, except we asked him to stop option #1, Vic Law.

The recruit mentioned Lewis, looks athletic and has a B1G caliber body. If he can run and jump, sign him and find minutes for whomever wants to guard people with Mathis.
