To really win in big time athletics you need all oars in the water rowing in the same direction. Sadly, at Rutgers, that's never going to happen. The faculty wants to be like Swarthmore while the athletic department wants to be Ohio St. The chasm is just too wide.

I think of a school like USC. They have huge athletic boosters on their board. Their chairman donates a ton in other areas, but it's a massive organization that assists athletics, not despises them. I imagine it's the same at other big time schools.

IMHO, you will always have this divide until these elderly, tenured professors retire, move on to another University or RU gets in new fresh, outside professors who get it, then maybe (a big maybe) RU has a chance to change its culture. BUT, the true progress will come when RU & NJ doesn’t cave in to pressure and Amy is on the BOG. Barchi also needs to step up and set the tone on the “new culture of the University”. Just like he does with the donors (i.e., not the same old Rutgers). Barchi needs to start lecturing the entire University STAFF about the benefits of acting as ONE cohesive group and synergy that’s here for the sole purpose of the students’ ALL around experience and the betterment of this University at every level from buses to facilities to campus life to safety to professors to academics to classes to athletics, etc. Students are your future donors, whether to academics or athletics, and represent YOUR University in the workforce. RU has work to do. They are so ignorant to battle each other than to focus on the problems right in front of their faces to help solve some of the issues to make this University a better place overall. Forest through the trees. SMH. Makes no mention of the CIC benefits anywhere but let’s not let helpful facts get in the way of Ebright’s arguments. Ugh. Mind blowing. The biggest academic boost from joining the Big ten actually comes from RBHS (the old UMDNJ that merge with Rutgers) they are seeing a benefit with research.

These outdated views come from people so in-drench in a bubble that they are still upset that Rutgers is no longer a private university. They also actually think that if it wasn't for football taking all the donations that the people donating to football would donate to their department instead. But that is not the way it works.
