C'mon, Moose. This has nothing to do with winning. It is all about petty jealousy and misunderstanding by some faculty members about the donations and money to athletics.

IIRC...

- the "hundreds of thousands" was $250K to GS's pay via that sports marketing company.. a side deal to pay him to do radio, etc.

- that deal was not "secret" it appeared in the Star-Ledger in a press release 6 months prior to the "investigative journalists" "uncovered" it and wrote a story (some thing prompted by BIG member George Zoffinger who was feuding with Mulcahy).

- no bid contract? its a sports marketing firm, not a construction gig. I cannot believe such a service should go to the lowest bidder.. whatever that is. Should they have gone with a firm willing to pay Schiano MORE in a side deal? About Mulcahy's son having been hired there.. that probably is shady.. but in terms of New Jersey? Standard practice. Christie awarded no-bid contracts in the wake of Sandy. No one arrested him for it.

This kind of thing got lots of traction when the program was successful on the field. Mulcahy lost his job because of the load of manure the Star Ledger dumped. That was after RU's first bowl appearance in 27 years and the watershed season in 2006.

I'm telling you.. its because the Democratic machine in this state wants total control of the budget. They have tried many ways to get it.

-Create a Chancellors office over all schools.

-Do away with the Rutgers Board of Trustees (politicians have control of the majority in the BOG)

-Scandalize Rutgers presidents

-Scandalize the AD once he had the power to spend $100M on a stadium expansion they went nuts.. not they have the politically-connected Hobbs in there.

- after some of the above failed, the plan seems to be to keep pounding on Rutgers reputation and the reputation of anyone more independently minded. Their hope, imo, is that the NJ population will rally to protest spending any tax dollars on Rutgers.. Rutgers budget will be strained to breaking and they will come hat-in-hand and take any deal the state gives them. THEN watch what happens to Rutgers budget.. once the politicians can decide where all the money goes.
