When you play a team that shoots as poorly from 3 as UT does andhey have no size whatsoever YOU PLAY ZONE. You don't have to play it the whole game but you play it quiet a bit. Game over, Kentucky wins.

We kept letting a 6'4 guy get in the paint and shoot shots in our face, over and over. We let many of their players drive straight to the basket. We looked like we did last year down there - and for the second straight year, let a team with no one over 6'5 play with us on the boards.
Love Cal but not a good performance by anyone, including him, tonight.

This game was all about effort. We had one guy who played hard and focused - Bam. Monk and Briscoe played hard, but had too many mental lapses. I'll give Fox a pass assuming maybe he isn't 100 percent, but he was just going through the motions tonight. Willis was really bad. But amazingly, Gabriel was 10 times worse. That's the recipe for a loss.

they made a bunch of ****ing threes

They made 5 and the OP is correct. They gashed us for the first 30 minutes with no adjustments. If cal refuses to make adjustments we can forget about ever cutting the nets down again while he's here. We will always be in the conversation but no adjustments will equal no more championships. You simply cannot be one dimensional and expect to out talent everyone in today's game. We just lost to a crap basketball team that we should easily beat by 15-20 points. Shots weren't falling but transition game was non existent thanks in part to giving up too many easy baskets.

They made 5 out of 10. That's a good percentage but it's a small sample. If they beat you shooting threes when they have shot low 30's on the season, then you just shake their hands, congratulate them and go on to the next game.

Playing zone actually gives inferior teams more of a chance to upset you. I would like to see Cal break out a 2-3 zone just on under the basket inbounds plays then go right back to man. It is tough to man a well designed inbounds play.

I'm not hanging this on Cal unless he was the guy who hired Roger Ayers.

Come on. I love Cal but his stubbornness to not change defenses when it is clearly obvious, costs us 2-3 games a year. UT's only prayer tonight was for Cal to do exactly what he did defensively, hope the slop they throw up goes in, and we don't pass the ball into Bam 2 out of every 3 possessions the whole game.

I've said for years we need to have the ability to play some defense when our man is getting beat. Sadly, we never will.

I think man 2 man is far and away the best defense you can play but it's good to be able to throw a few wrinkles at your opponent during the game. I don't think we should have zoned the whole game, and probably not even half the game. But I think it would have disrupted their rythym and flow during the game.

No, it wasn't. Coach Cal was coaching his *** off and hearing it from trashy UT fans all night. The players have to execute. They didn't defensively all night. And they didn't offensively until it was too late.

Called timeouts when needed, set offensive plays up, demonstrated on court the mistakes the players were making both offensively and defensively, didn't keep any timeouts in his back pocket, etc..

I'm not some maniacal hater of Cal. I respect his strengths and tolerate his weaknesses, because his overall results have been excellent.

But let's be real here.

He didn't organize the offense OR the defense tonight. Certainly not with a gameplan tailored to THIS game. I really don't believe he cared to even make a plan specific for this matchup.

I felt that players were thinking, on a number of occasions, "Cal wants me to push it no matter what!"

So, even when we didn't have the advantage, we pushed it. And the results weren't pretty. We had so many wasted possessions.

The players were a no show mentally tonight..the TBA crowd was crazy loud. We were rattled, confused, and looked lost most of the night. Coach Cal had nothing to do with Briscoe blowing a wide open layup or Monk, Gabriel, and Willis bricking wide open shots the vast majority of the night..or Fox not finishing like he normally does. Or the untimely turnovers especially at the end of the game. And all of the poor shot selections as well. The players just were not in it mentally from warmups to the final buzzer..besides a couple of stretches. Even Bam, our best player was either all in kicking *** offensively or just looked like he kind of said the hell with it sometimes offensively..and our defense ? A much smaller, less talented, etc UT team kind of bullied Gabriel and Bam..Fox looked bad defensively again. The whole team just looked out of it.

I agree that the crowd was difficult, the players didn't execute, the refs were horrible, etc. etc...

And, as I said, I really do respect the results Cal has gotten for us.

I'm just saying that he didn't exactly do his BEST coaching job for us tonight, either.

Maybe not..but he wasn't bad by any means. But what else could he have done, really ? Every player on the team looked out of it and like they never were into it. He could have yanked players left and right tonight. I don't think anything was getting through to them tonight. It's just a sign of a very young team. Nights like tonight happen sometimes.

Just curious as to your opinion...

What has been wrong with Briscoe the last couple games? I know he worked hard on the glass tonight, but his decision-making and execution have been sorely lacking.

Ky has one defense and that is a man, don't get me wrong that is good but there nothing wrong with mixing other defenses zones in some..

Listening to the post game comments from Calipari,I believe he let them lose to teach these guys a lesson because they won't listen to him.Players playing "Look At Me" BBall is over and a lesson learned.

If we have a coach that let his team lose to teach them a lesson we have a serious problem. We were fighting for a 1 seed and it was not the time to play mind games. I think the problem last night was the coach not having the team prepared to play in Knoxville. UK teams a lot better than this one have left with an L.

This team has no idea how hard it has been to win there and they are not good enough to just go through the motions and come home with a win.

Here comes another uncalled for double team
I agree here as well...doubling down opened up many offensive sets for Tn. Cal's game plan on both sides of floor was abysmal (not throwing it to Bam almost every possession).

I agree 100% with this. In the same way, you can go 2-3 and switch to man in the same sequence, late in the shot clock, when the ball is in the corner. All it takes is some practice and communication. Mixing and switching defenses on the same possession is very, very disruptive and effective. Plus, players love it. It's cat-and-mouse.

They shot 50% from three.

You guys are trying to play TN on paper. Cal had to coach against the team on the floor.

Maybe some of you guys would be happier watching video games?
