When you play a team that shoots as poorly from 3 as UT does andhey have no size whatsoever YOU PLAY ZONE. You don't have to play it the whole game but you play it quiet a bit. Game over, Kentucky wins.

Coaching his *** off and yelling/screaming are 2 different things. No, it wasn't. Coach Cal was coaching his *** off and hearing it from trashy UT fans all night. The players have to execute. They didn't defensively all night. And they didn't offensively until it was too late.
Agree, he was clearly doing both.Coaching his *** off and yelling/screaming are 2 different things.

Called timeouts when needed, set offensive plays up, demonstrated on court the mistakes the players were making both offensively and defensively, didn't keep any timeouts in his back pocket, etc..
I'm not some maniacal hater of Cal. I respect his strengths and tolerate his weaknesses, because his overall results have been excellent.
But let's be real here.
He didn't organize the offense OR the defense tonight. Certainly not with a gameplan tailored to THIS game. I really don't believe he cared to even make a plan specific for this matchup.
I felt that players were thinking, on a number of occasions, "Cal wants me to push it no matter what!"
So, even when we didn't have the advantage, we pushed it. And the results weren't pretty. We had so many wasted possessions.

Here is something evident.,, you don't have a clue as to what you're talking about!!!!

The players were a no show mentally tonight..the TBA crowd was crazy loud. We were rattled, confused, and looked lost most of the night. Coach Cal had nothing to do with Briscoe blowing a wide open layup or Monk, Gabriel, and Willis bricking wide open shots the vast majority of the night..or Fox not finishing like he normally does. Or the untimely turnovers especially at the end of the game. And all of the poor shot selections as well. The players just were not in it mentally from warmups to the final buzzer..besides a couple of stretches. Even Bam, our best player was either all in kicking *** offensively or just looked like he kind of said the hell with it sometimes offensively..and our defense ? A much smaller, less talented, etc UT team kind of bullied Gabriel and Bam..Fox looked bad defensively again. The whole team just looked out of it.
I agree that the crowd was difficult, the players didn't execute, the refs were horrible, etc. etc...
And, as I said, I really do respect the results Cal has gotten for us.
I'm just saying that he didn't exactly do his BEST coaching job for us tonight, either.
Maybe not..but he wasn't bad by any means. But what else could he have done, really ? Every player on the team looked out of it and like they never were into it. He could have yanked players left and right tonight. I don't think anything was getting through to them tonight. It's just a sign of a very young team. Nights like tonight happen sometimes.
Listening to the post game comments from Calipari,I believe he let them lose to teach these guys a lesson because they won't listen to him.Players playing "Look At Me" BBall is over and a lesson learned. When you play a team that shoots as poorly from 3 as UT does andhey have no size whatsoever YOU PLAY ZONE. Will never believe for a minute he let them lose. His hatred for zone defense got us beat. they had 1 plan, spread the floor and drive the ball.Listening to the post game comments from Calipari,I believe he let them lose to teach these guys a lesson because they won't listen to him.Players playing "Look At Me" BBall is over and a lesson learned.

I agree here as well...doubling down opened up many offensive sets for Tn. Cal's game plan on both sides of floor was abysmal (not throwing it to Bam almost every possession). Here comes another uncalled for double team
I agree 100% with this. In the same way, you can go 2-3 and switch to man in the same sequence, late in the shot clock, when the ball is in the corner. All it takes is some practice and communication. Mixing and switching defenses on the same possession is very, very disruptive and effective. Plus, players love it. It's cat-and-mouse.Playing zone actually gives inferior teams more of a chance to upset you. I would like to see Cal break out a 2-3 zone just on under the basket inbounds plays then go right back to man. It is tough to man a well designed inbounds play.
