Yes there are some players who've improved quite a bit, namely the cornerbacks and Mo Barry. But there are also players who've regressed, even from last year. Carlos Davis, Freedom, Gifford, and the safeties have all regressed from last year. We are about equal statistically with what we had last year on defense. If some players got better, that means some players must have gotten worse.
You’re way off. There are huge differences from what you’re asking of each player in terms of not only scheme but technique, reads and strength and conditioning. We have talent issues but we also have busted assignments all over the place and guys not reading the offense correctly
Instead he will do a Callahan stunt? Hopefully the defense will improve and we'll never find out.Scott Frost will never terminate his DC. He will hold this coaching staff together no matter what the powerful boosters say. If they force Chinander to go, Frost will go too...He won't let them do a Diaco stunt...
You forgot to drop the mike. Nothing like a 2x4 to the side of the head to end an argument.Gifford has 15 more tackles, 8 more tfls and 4 more sacks than last year how is that regressing?
As for the rest it's real simple. Last year you had 2 things this team does not. Lets break it down.
Lets look at one example, Freedom Akinmoladun:
Freedom had 2.5 sacks in the first 2 games of the season and none since...playing in this system...hmm wonder why that would be? (btw he had a toal of 1 sack all of last year.)
IDK, Probably because he had a healthy Mick Stoltenberg eating up two offensive players each snap? Due to injury Mick hasn't done that since the Michigan game and noone else on the roster really can either. That means undersized guys like Freedom who NEED that help to draw a one on one assignment against a hedged opponent are less effective.
As for the secondary, they also haven't regressed (except for possibly Dismuke).
They are the same players they were last year. And you can throw Dedrick Young in with them - because it's the same story. What has changed is that Josh Kalu isn't there to clean up their messes and hide their mistakes.
Last year when Young would miss a tackle or one of the others would blow a run fit and get burned inside, Kalu had the speed and ability to make a tackle 20 yards down the field instead of being cut off and getting beat for 40.
Outside of one route combination I am waiting to see them address, scheme is NOT the issue here.
This isn't an issue like with Bob Diaco litterally asking players to do two completly conflicting things at the same time in two different spots on the field to make plays work.
This is just a couple positions not having the players with the physical tools to do what is needed at that spot on a consistant basis.
Not really, if you look at our schedule we played some of the worst offenses in the nation, and then gave up 63 in our first tough game. That is why ppg stats, rushing yards per game, passing yards per game, are misleading. If you play teams with a statue at qb, a team that runs clock, and uses field position and defense to win...your defense is going to look good. If you play Texas Tech you are not going to give up less than 30. If you play 2-3 MAC or Sunbelt teams you will also look better. We played some good offenses this year... obviously we are very thin and challenged physically but we can win our last 2, and that is all we can ask for...
2003, But nice try...the 2002 defense only gave up +30 4 times...Bo in 2008 gave 34 ppg in his power 5 games...the 2002 defense was compared to some of the best teams we have ever had. They were average on both sides of the ball...if they had a dominant offense like the 90s they win 11 games again.

If we don't have the players to run a 3-4, why are we running a 3-4? Chinander has run a 4-3 before, and said he doesn't have a problem using it this year. If all our linemen are undersized for a 3-4, why aren't we using any 4-3 this year? Especially for a DC who says he has no problem running both. Our guys several times haven't even accounted for a receiver in the past couple of weeks, and have lost contain several times. Sounds like a scheme problem to me and not just that our players suck. And you say Diaco was asking physically inferior players to do conflicting things. Well why is our defense not any better when Chinander's not asking them to do those things?Gifford has 15 more tackles, 8 more tfls and 4 more sacks than last year how is that regressing?

WE ARE RUNNING A 3-4 BECAUSE FROST WANTS TO RUN A 3-4. AT SOME POINT YOU JUST HAVE TO RUN WITH WHAT YOU WANT TO DO AND TEACH YOUR SYSTEM. Rip the bandaid off and get your systems in place. You don't f### around with the 4-3 if your plan is to run a 3-4. You do realize that Carriker has said virtually the exact same thing about what Diaco asked of his defense? You guys are amazing. I don't know what the point of your crusade is but your persistence is unbelievable. If we don't have the players to run a 3-4, why are we running a 3-4? What does he have to work with?
