So according to this clown, you can in fact have too many players with experience and knowledge of the system, and we would rather bring in a transfer who may not contribute or be ready at a moments notice than have a guy who knows where he is supposed to be?

Look at Indiana and tell me you can have too many experienced players.
Well he's not playing now, and the young guys have a higher chance of making a big jump from their first into second years rather than thiam making a massive jump from his third year going into his fourth. So they may lock down even more minutes and they know the system well enough having played so much in it this year. Add young and mulcahy into the mix and it's even more crowded. Maybe we wouldn't find an upgrade over him, but i think there's a decent chance we could. Pikiell has shown a talent for scouring the grad transfer and regular transfer market. And let's not pretend experience always means a heck of a lot in year 3-4..he's not even in the rotation going into the game right now.

Indiana has their own problems and they don't have pikiell so they're kind of irrelevant. Our young guys are playing better than their young guys.

well Pikes comments would debunk the idea being pushed that he is sick because why wouldnt he just say that then

It was stated that he was sick for awhile, and that he played through it. He seems to have gotten passed in that time, but that doesnt mean it didn't impeach his development and progress this season.

For all the $h*t Thiam gets, he also has been the late spark we needed in a few early season victories, and has played great D in the B1G in the past. No quarrels with him not playing until coach thinks he's ready again.

I still hate the idea of pushing out a kid who has played hard for the program and helped a lot in wins during previous seasons (Iowa sticks out for example)--especially when this program has had one player play for the same coach for all four years in the last decade. He will still help. I'm banking on it.

95% sure that Thiam was one of Jordans recruits who Pike honored his offer when he was made head coach. I know Thiam, Doorson, & Sa all came from Canaries Basketball Acadmey, something like that.

Thanks for that. Thiam was a Jordan recruit.

I think he stays and maybe regains some touch. When he was recruited I thought the skinny on him was he was our 3 point guy and presented a nightmare for perimeter players to defend. Hasn't been the case in game situations, but maybe he shows more in practice. Right now we need more offense vs defense.

I hate it as well.

I would be surprised. I don't think Pikiell pushes him out. I think Thiam would want to play more, and Pikiell might just be upfront with him on what it looks like. I don't know how much he helps going forward given the fact he has Kiss, who isn't great, but has a lot of energy, and Harper, who also plays over him.

Thiam isn't going to gain more than 10 pounds either in the offseason. It hasn't happened in three years, and I doubt it happens now.

Pikiell won't, but the fans who are trying aren't helping. Also, Kiss has been a lot better since his benching. He's learning his role. Make the open three and hustle.

This is the same coach who played Kiss in crunch time last game with other options available. He is obviously going to play each game as he sees the best chance to win. $$$$

Players in every program every season get passed by on the depth chart. Some of those players transfer while others don't.

These are topics that are completely appropriate to discuss on a message board without being called a piece of **** and personally attacked. Just bc you don't agree with a poster's opinion, it does not give you the right to personally attack them in an inappropriate way. If you do then you certainly cannot claim the moral high ground

I don't think anyone has ever attacked Thiam personally. Everyone likes him as a person and agrees he is a hard worker. If you think he doesn't deserve any PT and he won't contribute in the future that is your opinion. If you think he's just having a bad year and can bounce back and contribute that is also your opinion. If you disagree with the other view, argue it on the merits. Do not attack the poster personally and claim to be the civil people on the board

I trust Pike to do the right thing when it comes to managing roster issues for next year and possible departures.

It's possible that Thiam's health issue is larger than just "the flu" or something physical - in which case, it wouldn't be Pike's place to say anything about it to the press. It's also possible that he's once again healthy but has fallen back a step in the depth chart and is struggling to fight his way back on the court.

He's shown he has the physical skills to play - but it's always been a question of his confidence, aggressiveness, and "scorer's mentality" to me. He can hit all the shots in the world in practice - but if his first instinct in a game is "who can I pass to" instead of "do I have an opening to score", all those practice shots don't really matter.
