Blue Jays have traded Eric Sogard to Tampa. No surprise Toronto is selling.

Some other names to watch:

Noah Syndergaard
Madison Bumgarner
Marcus Stroman
Robbie Ray
Yasiel Puig
Zach Wheeler
Mike Minor
Raisel Iglesias
Shane Greene
Greg Holland

Kirby Yates (?)
Felipe Vazquez (?)
Edwin Diaz (?)

Plenty of other bullpen arms might move too. The Giants have several guys that could be dealt.

I've heard Thor or Minor rumored to the Cards. They've GOT to make a move on a high quality starter.

Ty Wiggington, Brett Cecil, dexter Fowler, Andrew Miller, Luke Gregorson, zach duke, extending Matt Carpenter, signing Goldschmidt to a 5 year contract that will end when he’s 38, not to mention trading away 2 all stars in Luke Voit and Tommy Pham for a box of baseballs. These are some of MOron’s latest transactions. And ur expecting him to pull in Thor or Minor? Good one. Although he’s not technically the GM, he’s calling the shots. He is the worst exec in MLB, hands down. When his right hand man, Luhnow, left for the Astros, his ineptitude started to become apparent.

This team has way too many holes that can’t be fixed with 1 trade deadline acquisition. MOron has ruined Cardinal baseball. But I would like to come back on here and admit I was wrong.

And yes I know they’re in 1st as I type this.

You probably have more hate for Mo than anyone I’ve come across. Every time someone mentions the cards on here you seem to go on a rant.

And I’m not complaining about that or trying to say you’re wrong. Just an observation that you seem to be more pissed at him that the average fan.

I know. You’re right. But when I get a chance to vent when someone lobs one over the plate for me, I must act. Plus, my wife and kids are getting sick of hearing me bash him.

Marcus Stroman traded to the Mets. That’s interesting. Wonder if moving him within the division was too much for the Yankees to overcome directly.

MLB guys say Mets think they can compete next year, and don’t want to completely rebuild. They’re wanting to trade Syndagaard for pitching prospects though. So, kind of one foot in and one foot out.

I would think that has to put the Braves in play.

You're dead on. The Cardinals need a starting pitcher, a LH reliever, and a CF. Mo will call up Matt Carpenter and say "it's like getting someone in a trade." His biggest issue is he doesn't aggressively sign free agents and just waits for the market to develop forcing the Cardinals to overspend on risks. Then it causes a vicious cycle where they have to gut the farm system to try to fill holes at the MLB level. The other issue that hurts is the Cardinals lack of LH starting pitching to combat the Cubs and Brewers. That's a Sabermetrics 101 blunder that is absolutely a fireable offense.

That said I could see them trading for Zach Grienke- and then what they should do is platoon Weiters and Yadi, call up Arozarena which should have happened two weeks ago, bench Bader, and then tell Carpenter that he's sitting and is a pinch hitter until he gets his head out of his *** and starts using the whole field.

You're not wrong. His contract is up in 2020. When the St. Louis media is crawling up someone's *** they're in trouble.

I think they need pitching more than a CF. Once Ozuna gets back, I’m ok with flower in CF and I’d ride O’Neil’s good play as far as I could (in RF). Unless Bader is out of options, I’d send him down and call up Arozarena. As for carpenter, if the choice is between him and Edman, I’m picking carpenter just for the simple fact that carpenter gives you a better at a HR. I’m not hitting carp lead off though (insert Fowler here).

If they could pull of a trade for Syndergaard that would be pretty amazing (I don’t see it happening though - I’m sure the Mets will wants Gorman). And they desperately need to find someone to handle the 9th.

He’s always gotten more credit than he deserves. But historically at least his moves were not complete head scratchers. The last few years have been baffling. Not signing Scherzer was dumb and the Pham trade was atrocious. While I like Goldy, I don’t understand giving him the long extension but not chasing after Harper because of the length of the contract.

LOL, The "experts" on the mets thinking they can compete in the next year are clueless. That franchise is imploding and pretty much made this trade to piss off the Yankees.

Look bud, I just said those two were rumored to us. Mo has been far from perfect but he's not the only culprit with how the last 3-4 years have gone. I'm replying to multiple points made in posts below.

Not signing Scherzer- When Scherzer was a FA the Cards had the best ERA in baseball and starters in a 30yo Waino, Lackey, Wacha, Martinez, and Jamie Garcia. Now you hafta remember what Waino, Wacha, Carlos, and Garcia were back in those days. And he was wanting like $17M per.

Not going hard after FA's- We offered the same or more to both David Price and Jason Heyward and yet they signed elsewhere. Its insane to pay Bryce Harper 35M+ for 13 years when he can't even get his team out of 3rd place. How many titles did he win again in WAS? I'd much rather take a 5 year gamble on a perineal All-Star in Goldchmidt than a 13 yr gamble.

The OF - We do not need a CF. Get Ozuna back, play Fowler/Martinez/O'Neil in the other 2 spots. Now Fowler hasn't been great, but other than last year he's been pretty good when healthy. And he is just a domino in the tragic death of Oscar Tavarez, who the FO has budgeted to be a cornerstone for 15 years. Suddenly that happens, cards trade for Heyward, then sign Fowler after his departure. Then we do Piscotty a solid to be near his dying mom.

Miller, Cecil, Gregerson, and Duke were all fantastic relievers before signing here. At some point it's on the players.

Not crazy about the Carpenter extension but I understand it. Gorman is about 2.5-3 years away so they needed a bridge. And when he's right he's he's not a bad signing. Prior to this season Carp had really only had one bad half of a season in his whole career. Again not crazy about it but I get it.

Trading Voit- we got assets that have yet to pan out but the guy had NO position except DH. He wasn't even serviceable at 1B or OF. And unless I'm mistaken he was out of options and we needed room on the 40 man so his days were numbered anyway.

If you're gonna fault him for the above then you hafta credit him for Hudson, Flarrety, Kizner, Dejong, Gorman, Arozerena, plus the other 2 high end 3bman we have in the system.

Again I'm not MO's biggest fan, he got on my wrong side when he hired Matheny instead of Tito. But when you step back and look at the moves from afar in the times at which they were made then things are not near as cut and dry as they neatly appear in the rear view mirror. This isn't fantasy baseball, there are very few "good" and "bad" moves, most are complicated and somewhere in the middle.

As far as this season, yea we're in first place, but we'll know much more of what we are after these next 3 series. Unfortunately it's a hard deadline this year. So as of now we're in the mix and you can't take those for granted so if there is a SP upgrade to make, we hafta try to make the move unless it costs us Gorman. I've seen an 83 win team win the WS in 06 and a 105 win team get swept in 04. With an addition I think we are good enough to get in the tourney. That's the only prerequisite of winning the whole thing.

Hudson, Gorman, and Arozarena are more due to Randy Flores than Mo.

No doubt they need pitching more than a CF yet at the same time the offense is one of the worst in MLB. They're 25th in batting average in 23rd in OPS. They should be able to send Bader down unless I'm mistaken and he has been in MLB longer than I realize. They need a bat and really the most obvious openings are CF or 3B.

Mo got a lot worse when Lunhow left. Probably not a coincidence. And also probably why he hacked the Astros. He didn't go after Harper because he thought that Fowler, Bader, Martinez, and Ozuna would be good. In other words- he's an idiot.

I dunno. DeGrom, Stroman, Wheeler, Diaz is a pretty good core pitching staff assuming they hold onto them. Alonso looks like a star.

Definitely need some more pieces, but they’re not the Marlins or anything.

They're clearly behind 3 teams in their division. Nats and braves have lots of young talent

Top shelf free agents don’t seem to have any interest in signing with the Cardinals. Playing in St Louis is not the thing it once was. They are in the same boat as every other medium size market and have to develop from within.

Cue Todd4State to package him with a backup AAA catcher for Clayton Kershaw.

Cue Olblue to tell us that Mark McGwire is a bad hitting coach.

Or that Chris Carpenter is done two years before pitching in game seven of the World Series.

Or that Walt Jocketty was a bad GM.

I could go on but he's a Kentucky fan and probably can't read it.

Well if Chicago wins this division with 87 wins when it was there for the taking what they(Mo and Girsch) accomplished is possibly putting their own head on the chopping black. Dewitt had made it know that a 4th year missing the playoffs would likely result in FO changes being made.

3.7 FIP

While the FIP isn't great, it's a hell of an improvement over a bunch of the guys we've been running out there.

Shane Greene looked like Cy Young his first few weeks in Detroit then reverted back to looking like journeyman Shane Greene.

He has benefitted somewhat by pitching in a big park. I wouldn’t hang my title hopes on him.
