JoMo has coached here for 25 games now. A fairly solid sample size. If you look at how his offense performed against each defenses' average for the season (I am not counting Stephen F Austin and Abilene Christian here, so 23 data points)... His offense performed better than average against just 13 of the 23 teams he's faced.

If you take out ULL (twice), LaTech, and USM... He has 19 P5 games. Another solid sample size. The offensive genius has coached his offense to play better than average in just 9 of those 19 games.

Now... keep in mind that he performed above average in the aTm and Auburn games this year, both of which were aided by garbage time.
Furthermore, Kansas State muffed us two punts and gave us extra possessions and we still couldn't do better than average against them.
Also, we gained 318 yards against Ole Miss. They give up 417 on average.

The idea that we should give him a chance at year 3 is just dumb. He's in over his head and his offense will not work here without some major tweaks.

Devils advocate here. He played his first season with a QB that couldn’t throw it past the line of scrimmage accurately and majority of this season with a true freshman QB and wide receivers who couldn’t catch a cold.

Nick Fitzgerald is the most underrated QB Ive ever seen. Mullen scored points with him. Hell Kentucky is playing a WR at QB who actually cant throw and they put up 45 on a bowl team today....

Nick Fitzgerald is 15th in SEC history in total yards. That’s pretty damned good.

Double devil’s advocate Mullen went 12 of 16 by this better than avg against P5 defenses in his last two years with the same guy.

Mullen did put up points, but he didn't do it passing. No, Nick wasn't under rated. In fact, he was rated by his passing efforts. We would have won more games last year if he could have thrown it better.

BTW... we put up 54 on an SEC team. UK did so on the 102nd rank defense.

Fitz was recruited for Mullens offense. Fitz was an excellent QB for Mullens system not so much for Joes offense. And I don’t think anyone will argue that Mullen developed QB’s like no other. Now you can blame Joe for using Fitz that didn’t put him in successful situations and I would agree all day with that. Either way no one can base Joe’s system off his first season with a QB that couldn’t throw the ball accurately.

All Joe had to do was ease into his offense, rather than jumping off the cliff into it. Hire a run-spread guy as OC (Brian Johnson) in the first year and work to the strengths of the team you have, while introducing your own concepts along the way. Instead, we put up four sub-300 yard games in year 1.

I honestly can’t think of one thing that has improved in our program under Moorhead. What have we gotten better at after 2 years of him running the program?

The fact of the matter is that it does not matter if someone on this site thinks it's a great idea or a horrible idea. We are not voting on it. He is getting another year and Hillary is not the president also. Live with it.

Its not Joes job to install his offense. Its his job to win. In 2018 we had a good O Line, 2 thousand yard RBs, and one of the best running QBs in SEC history. He should have had more success on offense than he did.

17in THIS!!! Kentucky is doing it with a WR at QB. Fitz is arguably the 2nd best QB in school history. JoMoron was the issue. Not Fitz.

Yeah but Mullen did not develop Fitz. Fitz was never a passer, not even under Mullen. Dak was developed because he had the gift. 66% passer and right at 3,800 yards passing in his last year.

Mullen could only get Fitz to 1767 in his last year as our coach

Only 2 teams gained less yards than us vs OM. 2-10 New Mexico State and 3-9 Vandy. Both games in Oxford.

Our offense is pathetic. Everything about our scheme is pathetic. We can't pass. We can't catch. Our run game is the least creative of any modern offense that's strength is running.

Doing against who? Oh today? the 100+ defense in the nation? We were able to run all over teams under both Mullen and Moorhead and get shut down in others. Same thing.

Just because you game vs the 100th ranked defense does not mean you can vs the next team up.

How about a senior transfer that spent a great deal of time in his system and still flopped? Are we blaming his health for that failure?

Yes we are. And that senior transfer’s inexperience as a starter. And our WRs. And Joe’s scheme too. Now move along.

Hey Rupert, why should ole miss have not even have had an opportunity to score that last touchdown? I’ll give you a hint. What could we have done that we didn’t that would have ensured that they never even get into the endzone to score that. I’m gonna give you 24 hours to answer. Rewatch the game. Ask a friend. Do what u need to do and get back to me.

My takeaway from this thread is some folks here have lots of time and "want to" for looking up stats that support things they believe, but which really, really don't matter at all. He's here next year. Time to move on.

Dak had Brown, Ross, Bear , Lewis and Johnson to throw to. Fitz's sophomore year he lead the SEC in total Offense---still Had Ross . Dak might not have looked so good throwing to Fitz's receivers.

Here is what I would have done last year-with a line that had 3 NFL o-lineman . ****** receivers so take the slot man off the field and replace Him with Hill. That way you would have A-train,Hill and Fitz. Scheme to get Hill on a Linebacker and run the Train and Fitz.. you could motion Hill into a 2 back set. Could have done that this year with Hill and Gibson.

If you don’t want people talking about Mississippi State sports - go somewhere else. We won’t live with it.
