Under hand motion is more natural, but throwing overhand with legs kicks stepping into the pitch help create more velocity.I batted against many high level pitchers. Dave Roberts of the Tigers who happened to be at my tryout. I think in 76. I hit him well back then. I batted against several of the old Detroit league (Can’t remember the exact name of the league.) fast pitch softball pitchers. I understood it to be a paid league. I had a good chance to compare back then. The thing that messed me up the most is the deception of the softball pitchers. Following the trajectory was more difficult.
Had a couple players mention to me that the natural movement of the human arm was under handed as compared to over handed. Made sense at the time but the pitching distance plus the path of the pitch always had me curious as to which was harder given picking only one. I liked hitting against overhanded pitchers better than the underhanded heat. I guess that decides it for me… Eerie to me and more deceptive on the underhanded path…
Ole Ralph Houk said it of me best… he said my last name … “For ten games you can play with anyone. After that you “ain’t” worth Schmidt.” I guess so as my tryout period was about twenty games….(I can laugh now…).
Less stress on the arm to. Our guy would sometimes pitch both games of a DH and then do BP a day or 2 later.Under hand motion is more natural, but throwing overhand with legs kicks stepping into the pitch help create more velocity.
