The transfer portal has become the great equalizer of college basketball. I believe the transfer portal is much more impactful to the game than bringing in a bunch of 5-star athletes who physically are not capable of competing with 4 and 5-year seniors.

Great equalizer.

Refs seem to get worse every year. Some games are hard to watch.

Yep. Guys/old men that will be playing pickup at the YMCA after they graduate are the guts of a good team now.

That plays a role. Covid year plays a role as well. 5 years worth of players eligible instead of 4 means 25% more available players, more talent to distribute. It means that senior laden underdog who might get an upset or two is now a senior and super senior laden underdog, one more year of playing together and improving as a unit. Top talent dispersing to the G League and multiple college teams instead of accumulating in a few teams plays a role. NIL plays a role as players who just a few years ago went pro despite having little NBA hope are now sticking around making money while playing college ball. This is a perfect storm of parity.

I wonder if Hal, I mean Cal will still hurry his players off to the NBA?

Just crazy having 24 and 25yr olds still playing college ball
Why?? The 24 and 25 year olds still playing college ball aren't nearly as good as the 24 and 25 year olds the one-and-done players will face in the NBA. So, what's the problem?

You have to really be a great x’s and o’s coach now. Cal never has been and never will be. That’s why we are very mediocre now because he can’t out talent everyone like he used to.

Totally agree. No one will win the toun. games with key players being mostly freshmen no matter how elite they are. It is now too easy to go to the portal and pick up need pieces to make a good older experienced team.

Cal's season this year was doomed when he chose NOT to further utilize the portal.

Baylor Schiermann, Kendric Davis, etc. etc., loads of guys out there who could have truly made this team special and Cal decided to say, "Nah, we're good"

This team was a piece or two away, and they were right there in the portal waiting.

Hope he doesn't make the same mistake this time.

You are correct. Also, there is a lot of attention given to the new recruiting class coming in, but it won't matter like it would have 3 years ago. As talented as the new class is, they will be facing players due to the transfer portal that their young bodies aren't prepared to deal with. These young players won't have the level of basketball wisdom of the older players they will face. This one-and-done class will not save Cal's job.

I agree and think we actually have more losses next season than this one.

I believe anytime he has the opportunity to leave 2-3 scholarships open then he is going to. That's why he makes the big bucks to make these important decisions like not having a couple more shooters in case one of our dudes has a an off night for instance like 1-15 on a broken shot for the day, or a broken body part. Or a broken heart. Those scholarships are better off being day to day for years N years. Instead of going out and offering a guy just in case something happens, I guess he rather save em for a rainy day 🤗🤕🤥.

🖕🖕🖕🖕 💩 💩 ats what he think about them scholarships.

We shouldn’t need transfers the way this class is getting hyped up.
Led by Cal, this program is playing checkers while this year and future winners are playing chess. As usual, Cal is way too slow with making necessary changes. He is still chasing after one-and-done players and unable to see that the transfer portal and the NIL are reasons for a strategy change. Unfortunately for Cal, he is a one-trick pony.

Imagine if we had gotten Schierman for some wing depth, and 5th year Marcus Carr to go alone with Cason Wallace. SMH.

I like theiro, but we all should have known when he said he was good after they signed theiro that Kentucky was screwed

Yep.

But Cal looked at Wheeler and a freshman Adou Thiero and said "we're good"....it just makes zero sense to me.
Makes no sense to anybody. Cal really thinks he can coach big men dominated teams, with 2 guards and 2 wings to a title. Injuries, talent, strategy be Damned.

I'll admit I got sucked into the Thiero hype in the summer and fall thinking he might be a real piece for us this year.

Got totally fooled on that one.

He'll probably still end up being good, but not what we needed this year, that's for sure.

Junior year Thiero if he stays will be a really solid piece. I cam one back to it a lot but imagine a Davis, Wallace, reeves perimeter. Teams couldn’t sag in the paint and Wallace would got to play off the ball which he is more comfortable doing. If cal doesn’t add guards to the team next year will be the exact same

That would be deadly.

Or Wallace/Reeves/Baylor Schiermann

Those two trios would be absolutely deadly on offense, would have spread the floor more for Oscar and Livingston, etc.

Cal could have had either one or BOTH potentially, and just passed.

Inexcusable.

And if he does it again this year....is there a way to revoke someone's HOF membership?

Especially if dillingham doesn’t end up here. He has to go get another creator and another shooter

Dude I just keep thinking about if we had gotten those guys- imagine this team actually

Kendric Davis
Cason Wallace
Baylor Schiermann
Jacob Toppin
Oscar

Antonio Reeves (SEC 6th man of the year just like this year)
Chris Livingston
Sahvir Wheeler (80-10 MPG)
Ware
Collins
etc, etc.

Tell me that team does not win the national title this year.

F*#K, this is so frustrating to think about, and we were SO CLOSE to being able to have it.

I would of just taken one. I liked kendric Davis, him, Wallace, reeves, topppin, & Oscar. With Livingston and & Frederick as bench pieces and maybe another shooter would have been great. But one thing with cal is he has to have a elite elite PG, and a shot blocker
