People misinterpret the Chicken Curse. The curse is not that SC will suck, it is that SC will always fall short, even if just barely.

Some football examples:
What other SEC football team could win 11 games three years in a row and not even play in the SECCG once during that time?
What other team could find a way into the SECCG with 3 conference losses only to be defeated by the largest margin in the history of the SECCG?
1984 Navy. Need I say more?

I view the separate events as merely outcomes of the dark power that is the curse, as it manifests itself in many different forms. But all are a product of the CC.

Tanner is really the only story of sustained success with tangible results. Spurrier was the best ever as football coach at SC, but that is sort of a "tallest pygmy" thing when you look at his overall record and what was really accomplished.
