Baker has been pretty awful down the stretch here and it’s safe to say individually he’s had a disappointing season . But his legacy is safe . You have to look at the body of work . When we reflect on his career it was good and he led two ncaa tournament caliber teams , and will play in the ncaa tournament his senior year. For rutgers , this is as good as it gets . Looks like he’s running on fumes and staggering to the finish here. Let’s hope baker is the big shot maker one more time next weekend . I wouldn’t count him out.

No slight on geo, but I think perception is bigger than reality for him. I think someone posted his career stats and he literally is the same player he was as a freshman statwise. I’m sure someone can look it up and share, but I don’t know objectively if he’s gotten much better. Yes he’s a leader, but he’s not the game changer we pretend he is.

He hasnt lead either team that was tournament worthy. He’s Pike’s first class guy and has worked hard to be a glue guy on a multiple Rutgers teams. On the court we have gotten to where we are primarily on the backs of other players. RU didn’t improve until Ron Myles Mathis (and less extent Caleb) arrived and didn’t take off until Young/Yeboah transferred in. Pike has done well to upgrade our talent level. Gonna have to keep getting some transfers to fill gaps.

His legacy is cemented by the fact that he was integral to RU putting 2 tournament caliber teams in a row. You take that out of the equation and just look at his play and you’d conclude that he’s mediocre with some spectacular clutch end game moments.

Who would you rather hang out with, Geo or the losers who trash talk our players?

The guy was a big reason for our turnaround. A team first player who’s not afraid to take the big shot at the end of a game and make so many of them. Thank you Geo.

Some of you guys have lost your marbles

geo is going down as a 1400 point scorer (if he doesn’t return next year ) in the big ten...and came here when we were 3-15 in the league ...and led us during some crazy times ...on and off the court ...and left us with 2 NCAA bids at a time when the big ten was the best conference in the nation

and maybe ...there is another chapter to his legacy yet to be written ....

He will go down as an integral player here. He never took the next step in his career and blossomed into a star, but he was always a good player for us. If he comes back for year 5 maybe he really shoots up the ranks but otherwise his legacy is secure here

we were also 3-15 after he arrived

I would be thrilled if he wrote a new chapter next week though

Just be thankful that he came here and brought us great memories. His shots last year against Purdue and a few other schools were so clutch. Tons of great memories with him. Will always get a standing ovation at home games. Thank you Geo and I hope you have a great ncaa tournament

In the past couple of weeks he went 0-6 from 3 against Nebraska, 1-6 versus Indiana, 1 for 5 against Illinois, and had the embarrassing last two and a half minutes versus Minnesota in regulation when he was 0-3 from the field with a turnover and foul and handed them overtime where he then scored zero points in the Rutgers tournament clinching win. Yet somehow people on this board see him as the single most clutch player in history. Why don't these performances count in your view of Geo as a player?
Seriously he was given one of the most clutch moments in Rutgers history to make. An ISO to lock up an NCAA birth for Rutgers. Even though he had hit zero shots from the field in the second half. He bricked it. But hey, I get it, when the pressure is one, IT'S GEO TIME!!!!

I’m sure this thread will look stupid when Geo wins us a game in the tournament hitting three step backs in a row.

I’m mostly hoping his defense rebounds in the tournament. He’s been much worse on that end of the ball this season and has been a bigger problem than inconsistent offense.

Why do you have to be such a douche all of the time?

He has had a very good career here and all you can do take shots at him

People like you suck

Our fan base and team deserves better than the likes of you

See, here is the thing. I am not taking shots at him. Like at all. I'm saying what he is as a basketball player. And that we need him on the team. It's not trashing our own players. None of you have been saying, "Damn, Sojo, you are really giving props to the other players on the team when many other people aren't, you’re overrating them"...

How about say he has had a good career and part of the turnaround instead of going back and forth with people

It’s just so unnecessary after he is a big part of what is about to be accomplished 30 years in the making

I am not the one going back and forth with people lol - guy makes an OP about his legacy. I say "He’s Pike’s first class guy and has worked hard to be a glue guy on a multiple Rutgers teams." as a response.

Then you guys quote me and go back and forth saying I am taking shots at Geo from a post I answer and praise Pikiell and Geo's teammates.

See, that's the problem. Bad game after bad game, but eventually he'll hit a decent shot in a game, and you'll go "THERE"S GEO!". Good players show up game after game. One good shot this month and that will negate all of the bad games he has played. He had his shot to be a legend and shoot Rutgers into the NCAA tournament. Every player dreams of that chance. Many of his teamamtes woud have loved to be given that chance. Geo choked. I'm sorry, he choked on his shot after getting stripped on the previous chance he had, I'm sorry, he missed, got stripped, missed his shot in the play before, etc. But one day he will make a good shot and that will make him a good player?

his legacy is changing the culture at RU and having a special place in the history books and hearts of RU fans.

His legacy as a player itself stats wise and career wise will be overshadowed by the above. Its not about his stats.

Geo = Leonard. Period.

He committed when no one else wanted to. He lived up to what he said. He was instrumental in recruiting Paul (top NJ recruit) and others.

He can “wield the sword”.

Missing a shot is not choke Einstein....if Kobe missed a game winning shot would you call that a choke?

Not every player bats 1000 on game winning shots

Furthermore your memory must have some issues because he hit game cliching shoe at Perdue last year which put over the hump into the tournament last year

Yet another shining example of the bottom rung of our fan base

God forbid you would just say good career and move on

Arod had better stats than Jeter. But almost all Yankee fans love Jeter over Arod.

sometimes it’s not all about stats.

Geo was a huge cheerleader. He recruited players here. He changed the culture. That is super hard. We should know that.

Definitely the leader of this team. RHJ is another leader who you can tell really respects Geo. They both have gone long stretches of games and within games trying to get their teammates involved in the Offense. There are better players and better teams in the BIG but I’ll take this team and these players any time. It’s a pleasure to root for kids like this.

Geo was the founding member of a team that has done more than any Rutgers team in 30 years. His legacy will be taking a chance on the worst program in the country and leaving it with an NCAA tournament appearance. He may not be killing the stat line but he maybe one of the most important Rutgers players ever. Top 5 Certainly.

He should come back for another year to pad his stats.

He didn’t really “take a chance” we were his best offer, Pike “took a chance” on Geo. And there is nothing wrong with that.

I feel like one poster just can never admit he’s wrong and is halfway to China now with the hole he is digging. This is not the first time I’ve seen him do this either. Keep digging pal.

Bac basically nailed it. Geos legacy has little to do with stats, it’s his approach to the program. He set lofty goals, worked hard, and never wavered. No mid-season flights to Florida, no last minute transfers, no off-court issues. He and pikiell, together, changed the course of this program.
