That was right up there with the RU vs St Johns game in the garden - That little corrupt catholic school ref just decided to leave the arena. I really may have to rethink college sports. It is like watching content on social media - is it real or is it AI.
Michigan’s national championship a couple years back was a result of cheating, so naturally, a season opener against WMU is a no-brainer to rig for good ole UM.

Watch how the MS sports media gloss it over. The whole sport has been corrupted. Even in the Rutgers game on Thursday we seemed to get a bunch of calls down the stretch. We just suck so bad we could not take advantage.

Shelby looked it up. In college, it‘s a dead ball once it crosses the plane of the back of the end zone, which presumably happened at 0:01 It doesn’t matter that it was touched at 0:00.

Terry McAuley, the NBC rules analyst, disagrees with Shelby. McAuley says that the clock stops when the ball hits the ground, or (as in this case) when it is touched by a player who is out of bounds.

Worm…additional research, which doesn’t support Shelby’s initial assertion, does provide a seemingly feasible explanation of the call being correct. The game clock tv viewers and attendees see doesnt indicate tenths of a second like NBA game clocks do but the booth’s official clock doesSo there’s a full second left once the game clock drops below 1 sec and displays 0. For the sake of argument, there could have been a tenth of a second still left with the public game clock showing 0.

No, really. If the clock we saw showed tenths of a second you might see the player touched the ball at 0.3 like we see in basketball shot clocks. But in football in that scenario we only see the 0 on the game clock

In fairness, I thought there were several out of bounds hits by UMass that were not called in the first half of our game. It didn’t impact the outcome, but I would not say we got an overwhelmingly “friendly” whistle. Nothing like Michigan. Again - there was nothing the refs could’ve done to help us regardless.
Only game to compare this to was the 1972 Basketball Gold Medal Game.

They said clocks all synced but clock on TV is not one of them? Is that really the explanation? the ball very clearly is in the air, clock hits zero, well before it's touched. I don't care if the kid who touched it came from the stands. What's the difference?

If you believe the B1G statement and video not showing the clock in it, and ignore the actual video of the stadium clock, then I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn that may interest you. We all saw the stadium clock at 0:00 before a player touched the ball on video and that was the official clock, even Terry McAulay confirmed it was.

There is a nice positive that came out of the Rutgers loss and the Michigan steal. It is now more widely recognized that Dave Portnoy is a total fraud and a tremendous ***.
