after the 2015 loss....I don’t even care let him go.
you mean this poll? Cal lost 193-73.No.
It is NOT universal here.
Just recently there was a poll on this site.
It was close, but the majority chose to keep Coach Cal.
You wanted the coach gone after his 4th final four in 5 years?after the 2015 loss....I don’t even care let him go.
he blew it. He has a 38-0 team and lost by stall ball. A guy did a simulation 100000 times and kentucky wins 81% of the time if they didnt slow down the pace. He was up 4 and choked. You wanted the coach gone after his 4th final four in 5 years?
That's rub, if they're really interested then Shaka never makes it back on the plane from the loss to ACU on Saturday. One thing is sure and I don't even think this is real....but the University of Texas has more than enough money to buy Cal out and then some.
Talk about a school with Alumni and very deep pockets. The only thing is, how interested they are about basketball in general. Cal would be an upgrade from Smart for sure.
They have their own network for goodness sake.
Pretty close to where I am too.I'm not in the camp that wants Cal gone and think with his resume he deserves at least one more season to show if he can adapt, change his philosophy a bit and turn things around.
The man can still be a very good coach if his stubbornness and pride didn't get in the way.
But I am also at the point to where if another team did show interest, I wouldn't be nearly as worried about losing him as I would have been a few years back. More of an "Oh, well, probably was time to move on." mindset.
In the hypothetical scenario where Cal went to another school, watch him suddenly get all the top recruits again... Seems like it would just be our luck. Haha.
This sort of sentiment baffles me. Everyone- it's universal here- agrees that change is urgently needed. And yet some are more than willing to pin their hopes on a guy who they concede is limited by "stubbornness and pride."
Yes, it's understood that for better or worse, Barnhart has tethered us to Calipari ad infinitum. It's still amazing that some have faith that this leopard (who's no spring chicken lol) can change his spots.
UK fans are big meanies : (Why?Is he not getting paid enough?
Somebody might wanna tell Texas it’s the wrong time to invest in John Calipari. The only part of his job that he was special at was recruiting elite talent and that talent is no longer available to him.
I agree....it all depends on what they think Cal has left and how serious they are about Texas basketball.I agree but I mean... Is Calipari worth a $52 million buyout plus...what? $10-$12 million a year? This Calipari ? The last 6 seasons Calipari?
But Texas would be very content for a decade with S16s and E8s and would be much more forgiving of the occasional flop season that Cal has now done 2 out of 10 (almost a 3rd w 2016). Look how long they kept mediocre March results w Rick Barnes. And they're fans don't know enough about basketball to question strategy. Cal can also use his "slow developing, March is all the Matters, meanwhile I'm losing games to average teams in December" method of team progression without the Texas Fanbase fretting over every L. There isn't a tradition to ruin there. Great place for Cal to coast until he is ready to retire.Texas won't put up with losing either.

There is no buyout for a school to get him. If he ever left for another university, that University doesn't pay anything. Cal just leaves for another job with either university paying a buyout.I agree but I mean... Is Calipari worth a $52 million buyout plus...what? $10-$12 million a year? This Calipari ? The last 6 seasons Calipari?
While nobody owes UK anything if Cal leaves, the buyout itself makes it less likely that Cal leaves. Most think this was a terrible contract, and maybe it was, but if the rumor of UCLA offerring Cal 10 mil/yr is true, then we kept him for a lot less. Cal got 8 mil this year (obviously overpaid this year), and is scheduled to get a total of 8.5 mil the next 4 years, then 9 mil for the 4 years after that if he keeps coaching. The buyout the university must pay to fire him is 75% of the remaining money on the contract if he remains the coach. If he elects to step down from coaching after 2024, then he came remain with the university as a special assistant, which would decrease his salary to 1 mil/yr. However, if he steps down to that position, then the buyout moves to 100%, or 1 mil/yr until 2029. Contrary to what I have heard, I can find no where in the contract where Cal would receive anything past 2029, ie 1 mil/yr for life. The contract states that the terms, without being extended end in 2029, regardless of what position he is in.Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't one of the biggest criticisms of his contract is that Barnhart didn't put a buyout in it for another team hiring him? It was only paid to him if we fired him without cause? So he would be free to go wherever he wants with no repercussions.
I agree....it all depends on what they think Cal has left and how serious they are about Texas basketball.
We'd have so many transfers we be lucky to field a team.If we could be so lucky....
1000 players in the portal and KY would hire a GOOD to GREAT COACH. KY would be fine. We'd have so many transfers we be lucky to field a team.
There is nothing universally agreed to on this board. This sort of sentiment baffles me. Everyone- it's universal here- agrees that change is urgently needed. And yet some are more than willing to pin their hopes on a guy who they concede is limited by "stubbornness and pride."

They are going to retain Shaka to coach, and hire Cal as Chief recruiter and PR person. When was Shaka fired?
Whether you want Cal gone, or not, it seems to me that everyone here recognizes that he needs to make some fundamental changes in his program. There is nothing universally agreed to on this board.
Also, he will recreate his expressway to the NBA for any player, ready or not. They are going to retain Shaka to coach, and hire Cal as Chief recruiter and PR person.
I don’t agree with thisThere is nothing universally agreed to on this board.
You couldn’t pay me enough to deal with some of the fans even though the great fans outnumber the loud, obnoxious and entitled, it still would be to much to take on thinking you have to keep people happy instead of doing what you envision and managing your team. Why?Is he not getting paid enough?
