Testing Numbers

I know a lot of people get a good laugh of this yearly thread but to those of us that attended a CCL school, we know how important it is. Financial struggles at these schools are a real problem. You don't get paid money from the IHSA for winning State Titles. You hope athletic success can turn into some extra students each year. Especially for all boys schools like MC, SR and BR.....we are the 3! We need bodies in those seats and tuitions to be paid. I know many think the entire MC football team is going for free, they aren't!! We would be closed if we did. Many kids in the school come from families that struggle financially and they get Aid through agencies that pay MC. Yes there are some donations from donors, I won't insult anyones intelligence but they are all not getting free rides! We fundraise, we get hold events, we beg and borrow to keep the doors open. So yeah I do take interest in these numbers because I want to see all CCL schools succeed so we can keep going.

Unofficial report of 550-600 at StL. They only accept 330 so should have no problem hitting their number.
Wow - that's a big number on par with what Marist will get. Look out - St Laurence is jumping up to 7A or 8A.

Is that what it's been recently? Around 220 for BR?
Yep 190-220 for the past couple of years. I think this year was better than last. Not as many boys as girls out there. But seems like Laurence is bucking that trend and pulling in the numbers so look out for the Vikings to jump up to the Blue again

Side note, there’s been a rash of Catholic grade school closings up on the northside of Chicago. Can’t blame folks leaving the city, but not sure how good this is for the likes of Loyola, ND, Pats, etc. Tuition isn’t cheap.

Could actually be reverse changing of the schools, plus holding off on $ until HS notwithstanding SeeTeeYou shenanigans. DPP had 1/2 that number a decade ago and it seems like StPats is less cannibalized than thought.

Isn’t this a tremendous number for DePaul (GT) from where they were 5-10 years ago?

What is McAuley getting with Marist and Laurence doing those kinds of numbers?

I was shocked to hear my Uber driver’s daughter attends STL from Brookfield. Didn’t realize they were pulling from that area.

She says there’s about 10 of them, and none of them are for sports. Just really smart girls who saw value in the education, and apparently STL offers tuition discounts better than most other Catholic HS.

STL continues to be on the up and up. They were a nothing door mat when I was in school in early 2000s. Good for them!

Serious question for the co-ed catholic schools. (Not trying to start an argument here).

For admissions, do schools have a separate target for boys and girls. For example if you have 400 spots, do you reserve 200 for boys and 200 for girls or just admit the best 400 applicants.

Going Co-ed.
Going coed was a huge help obviously but Dr. Martinez taking over was the catalyst that started the turnaround. The way the school looks compared to when I was there in the 90s is night and day. They’ve made some major improvements with more on the way.

STL tries to keep there freshman classes 50/50. It was just a few years ago they got to a balanced student body as they remained predominantly boys for a while after going coed.

McCauley still has an enrollment of over 1500. Basically as big as Rice & Rita combined and then some.
That is doubled on the IHSA website. They have like 720. I should have been more specific and said testing this year.

Westchester, Stickney, Lyons and Brookfield. Berwyn, too.
They get a lot from Darien, Willowbrook, Woodridge, Lemont, Palos, Orland too. Covid and, for lack of a better term, “wokeness” helped them and other Catholic schools pull a lot of kids from the near western burbs. I had a friend who told me his daughter wasn’t going to Lyons Township because “the school board was confused over who belonged in the women’s restroom”. Honestly, they’ve got a decent footprint in Mt. Greenwood/Beverly too. Not on the same level as the other neighborhood schools, but it used to be unheard of for kids from that area to go to StL a decade ago.
