Man, the way some other fans come on here and talk **** about Rutgers you would think they were some powerhouse basketball school. As a younger guy, and admittedly not a big college basketball fan before the Pikiell era, I had to go look up Iowa basketball history to see if they had some great basktball history to back up all this **** talking...and boy was I wrong

This is just flat out wrong. On Iowa’s first possession alone, Rutgers gets away with a handcheck on Moss out on the perimeter and a forearm check (for lack of a better term) on Wieskamp as he drives to the basket. Neither of them were called fouls, but both should have been based on the NCAA’s supposed emphasis on freedom of movement. That garbage was going on all night long, and aside from one or two fouls in the second half, Rutgers got away with it the entire game.
I’ve watched the Big Ten long enough to know that some games the officials don’t call those fouls (usually MSU and PSU get away with it), and this apparently was one of those games. I just can’t believe that there are Rutgers fans crying about the refs when they were able to get away with murder on defense.

This was my first time visiting a Rutgers message board, and I have to say I am a little surprised at the lack of basketball IQ demonstrated by the fans here. If you want to pretend like the conference and the refs are out to get your favorite team, be my guest. Just do us all a favor and put the tin foil hat back on before you do it.

People here have a high b-ball iq. I have been a high school coach for 12 years and been around b-ball my whole life so I’ve seen thousands of games and coached in hundreds as well . I think I’ve seen my fair of handchecking and last night I didn’t see much at all . If you want to say riding you then yes, I could see that, but two hands on the ball handler definitely not and if we did it was called .
People on these boards have stuck with r u b-ball through many lean years and understand the game better than most . We’ve had local sports writers who are not homers ( no writer in N.J. is ) say we get screwed game after game . You wouldn’t know unless you watch us consistently .

I hear some of what you're saying as Michigan State under Izzo gets a lot of calls just because of his whining and it's Michigan State. However, I do acknowledge that basketball is probably the most difficult sport to officiate. I'm just looking for consistency for both teams.
As a fan and as a coach, consistency is all I ask for.
95 times out of a hundred you can make the case that the foul called by the official is actually a foul. What I asked for is that it gets called on both sides of the Court. This is the biggest thing that is lacking in my humble opinion.

I'm sorry but you flat-out embarrassed yourself with that post. I just watched that first possession in slow motion multiple times and if you want to call either of those fouls, then you would have to call 50+ fouls each game.

You have a very good team. You happened to win a game and got some help from the officials. It happens.
Nobody is saying that you guys are terrible and only win games because of the officials. You played well and we played well. You guys got a bit of a bump coming down the stretch. It could very easily have decided the game. That's not crazy talk... that's not tinfoil talk.
The situations being debated here are real legitimate situations that actually occurred. In front of all of our our eyes. Yours included. If you recorded the game go back and watch it again. Okay you keep talking about that one foul that should have been called that offsets the flagrant that wasn't called on our end. That should have been called a flagrant foul by the very definition of the rule. Okay we'll give you that one. How about the several others down the stretch? Give me a break. We got hosed on our home court yesterday. Man up and admit it.

I have always said that I wish we would do this more. Because even if you get called for one or two of them a game the refs will not call you for 10 of them in one game. It's a numbers thing.
They are very effective at it and good for Iowa for sticking to their plan and doing that. It certainly gave their shooters the extra bit of daylight they needed to make their shots.

I said in another thread that they set s million moving screens and didn’t get called for one all game . Almost impossible to do , yet they’re complaining about handchecking
Iowa didn’t play particularly well. Some of that was due to Rutgers, some of it was due to unforced errors. Again, there were missed calls that favored Iowa, and there were missed calls that favored Rutgers. That happens in literally every single basketball game. For example, with 14:10 left in the 1H, Rutgers gets away with an egregious over the back that results in a foul on Iowa and one FT for Rutgers. Just because this happened early in the 1H does not mean it is not equally as important as a missed call that happens with 5 minutes left in the 2H.
To claim (as you and many others on this board have done) that the officials clearly favored Iowa, that the officials stole the game from Rutgers, etc.- that is nonsense, and literally not one single objective viewer would agree with that assessment of the game. As a Rutgers fan, you remember the poor calls that went against you, but you do not remember the poor calls that went in your favor. When both sides are complaining about the officials after the game, it’s probably a fair indication that neither side was favored, and the officials just flat out sucked.
As I understand it, Maryland and Rutgers were added to the B10 for all the TV sets in New York. However, isn't New York more of a pro sports city than college fan base?

I went to the Iowa board multiple times and made my case that we were not hand checking all game just being physical with our bodies only to be called a cry baby and be told our team is a bunch of thugs .

All examples of obvious hand-checking/forearm chucks that are exactly the type of contact the NCAA is supposed to be cracking down on this year- yet no foul on Rutgers. Your guards were incredibly handsy on the perimeter (particularly #32) and fighting through screens.

On the play late in the game where Caleb banged into the screener and was called for a foul was a case where the screener took a half step into him.
I was hoping for additions of Missouri and Kansas, as felt they would be a better culture fit than Maryland and Rutgers.
Yep, I think in both D1 hoops and football, the officials should be hired on a full-time basis. It is such big business, that refs don't need to hold outside jobs...their travel schedules are crazy enough.
What does anyone really mean by "cultural fit?" Seems like a polished way of saying you don't like those of us on the east coast. "Cultural fit" would really only apply to fan bases, so you'd just rather not be forced to interact with us? Seems a bit elitist -- something we're often accused of being.
That’s not what I saw on the replay. FWIW, it is also not what the FS1 announcers concluded after seeing the same replay.

Rob Kueneman was the short, dark haired ref that absolutely screwed us on numerous calls from 12 minutes remaining. This was the guy that was COMPLETELY out of position to make a call on the Myles Johnson put back, and despite the other ref who had the angle to see the play, Kueneman blows his whistle and costs us two points. He made maybe 3 or 4 horrible calls in the last 12 minutes of the game. IMO he cost us a 5-7 point win.
Curry, the older white haired ref, also made his share of bad calls against us, but not as much as Rob Kueneman.
Carstensen, the tall bald guy was OK.
What? The ball was OUT of the cylinder...it was a BAD CALL, period! Check the video replay as it clearly shows the ball off the rim, which clearly means "we wuz robbed".
