I will say that people expecting the pipeline to have been rebuilt by now are probably not using sound logic. That first class was a waste so that really makes Frost's recruits pretty young by O line standards still. I do think that by the time Benhart and Corcoran are seniors they'll be be pretty good. Prochazka is just a beast with outstanding length and strength. Teddy is an unusual talent who will play on Sundays assuming a complete recovery from the knee. I'll readily admit that I don't know enough about O line play to judge whether they're being coached well or not. The optics are not good though. Stai and every other former pipeline member I listened to when Frost was hired said it was going to take 5 years. I suspect they knew what they were talking about.
Thanks for admitting you don't know enough about O line play to judge. LOL
Benhart will never be more than average under the current OL coach. He lacks flexibility, he is not aggressive in the least, and he has short arms for a tall man. He plays like a defensive offensive lineman.
Corcoran may develop into a really good guard. At LT he is and will likely be a liability matching up with the opponents top DE.
SF has chosen to go with really tall guys. Usually they will lack good feet. Teddy is likely to be a really powerful guy as he matures, cause I think he shows good aggressiveness as a true freshman.
No doubt Stai has the knowledge to make statements that may turn out to be true, but if NU keeps recruiting all these little puppy dogs to play in the OL, it will take a lot longer than 5 years under the current leadership.
Sicht is a good technician, but is slower than molasses. Nouilli might become a pretty decent offensive lineman, has aggressiveness but lacks quickness.
I'm not claiming to be an expert in OL, but there are physical characteristics that an outstanding OL needs, and most of our guys lack those characteristics.
Hixson would be much better at Center, and I think Cam would be kick *** as a OG. Cam is quick, strong, aggressive and is being wasted as a Center in this offense.
At any rate, until Austin is gone, this line is going to struggle. I'm amazed that NU has 20 OL and this is the best combination they can come up with.
