Good Gawd......nothing wrong with an opinion.....I've stated my position several times in this thread.......you're so bullheaded to even try to understand it. We are talking about education reform in WV and you try to interject Trump into the thread.
Two things, first I invited you to convince me that Charter schools have any merit in this state or any other and you can't or won't offer anything which is why I called you a terrible advocate for charter schools. Second, Trump? wtf lol. Point out to me where I mentioned Trump, take your time. Shew..

Let's see here. So we have a bunch of Trumpers for charter school because "it's s start" and even one admits it may not fix the problem.

So, take my tax dollars to pay for something that I am 100% against. Hmmm. Sounds a lot like the health care reform that resulted in Obamacare.

I think we should keep striving to be 48th in education by continuing to do the same thing over and over. I like your plan way better.

I think we should try to get health care for every working class person, whether they can afford it or not........[winking]

Oh, I've never seen where Charter Schools are 100% slam dunk. So, throwing tax dollars towards something that isn't proven.....hmmm......smart. Maybe this is why we are 48th........

You're missing the whole point. Not voting for the bill BECAUSE of charter schools is the point. I seriously doubt three charter schools by 2023 will move the needle. Many Repubs want to try charter schools and they have the numbers to pass the bill......The union will oppose ANY bill that has charter schools in total disregard for all the good parts of the bill and the Dems are in total lockstep with the union.

Why do you think charters are bad? I've heard horror stories about them when they are not well-regulated. I've experienced good results with charter schools in CO, but they are also managed well. They do not require teacher accreditation, they are funded through the state budget rather than local district budgets, and the ones I'm familiar with have significantly better test results than the area district schools, and I'm already in a good district.

Repubs chose to go down this omnibus/all or nothing bill path. It didn't have to be this way, no whining.

Yes they did. I watched them interview Mitch Carmichael on Sunday morning. He was proud of keeping it an omnibus bill and proud to take it to a special session, costing taxpayers more money.

So, ask your fellow Republicans if allowing gays to legally marry in just a few places is something to scream about? Yeah, because they would say "allow it now, everywhere later".

#1: They are not proven to be any better than local, regular public schools
#2: They open up, draw away from the local public school funding...how can that school succeed with less funding? And what happens to the students left behind that didn't get the "lucky" lottery pick for the "wonderful" charter school?

Yes, they did. Justice said the teachers will get a raise last year. Then the Republicans blocked that by adding the charter school part to a bill for teacher raises. That was a dirty trick, by Mr. Carmichael.

If/when WV does get them, they should only allow them in areas of increasing population. Charter schools would be better rec'd in growing states.

1. The one my daughter attends has better test results, better results when they leave (right now it's only through 8th grade), and better placement results at the college level.

2. They are funded through the state education budget while the local schools are funded by district property taxes. I'm not sure what funding you are talking about them stealing. Also, the "lucky lottery pick" is getting in there and signing up. My daughter started pre-school there, and getting her signed up for the following year is as simple as saying that we intend to return.

It's BS that the teachers' pay raise is part of this bill. It should have been part of the state employee pay raise that's already been approved instead of being held hostage by charter schools and other BS Repub demands.

It's not BS......it's part of the bill.......I call it a great strategy to help push thru meaningful education reform for our WV children.

The teachers did not get their raise. It was promised but was placed in this bill, so now it is contingent on this bill passing. How could you be so wrong, so many times in one thread. You are the most uninformed poster. Why do you continue posting when you constantly have no clue what you’re talking about?
They will get their raise ......wanna bet? I'm not uninformed.....I'm telling you that they will get their raise.....apparently you have doubts.

Where is the demand for them? If desired, Dems can just undo things next chance they get.

No one is against education reform. Everyone disagrees on how to accomplish it. Public charter schools are definitely not the answer.
Except they have helped in similar situations. You again simply dont know what you are talking about.

You mean the ones that Dale Lee and his union cronies spread about charter schools.

Everyone looks at rankings and "failing schools". Look st it like this, someone is always going to finish dead last. If a league had 30 teams. Every team finished .500 or better. Someone is going to be last. Even though they were right there with the leaders.

WV schools and their students is a result of decades of "family traditions". There's only one way to fix that: sterilization.

Edit: Parents who force their kids to do better get better results than those that do not. Start at the home, not reinventing the education system with unproven theories and charter schools. Waste of time and taxpayer money.

I think you’re seeing parents asking for and voting in office people who will deliver more of what they’re wanting. Hence the charter schools. It’s a quasi-private school without the price tag and ideally the only students there will be ones whose parents give a **** leaving the distractions in the public schools for you certified professionals to make a difference.

Quasi private schools hence they should get zero tax dollars. My objection, right there and same with many others. Don't take public funds away from public schools. Period.

I understand the position, don’t even really disagree with it. However, if it allows a way to sidestep NCLB and not have the trash drag down would be students?
