Got the old Merck version, zostavax, no issues. Been meaning to get the new one, shingrix because it’s supp to be more effective. DONT want shingles!

I received the 1st part of the new vaccine. Had headache, fatigue, felt achy, slight fever and the area where the shot was administered hurt. Took about 4 days to recover. .

I had this plus the shivers that you get during the flu...not quite 4 days but it sucked nonetheless...I did sleep for 12 straight hours though!

Many people feel miserable for a few days after receiving the vaccination. But it is worthwhile because the vaccine is much more effective than the old one at preventing shingles.

Anyone on here get advised by their physician to get one?

I've only heard about the pain and discomfort they cause, and I sure as hell don't want to get em.

I can’t comment on the vaccine but my dad was a pretty tough guy and had shingles, said the pain and discomfort was pretty bad. I’m not a big vaccine guy (e.g. don’t get the flu vaccines) but I don’t understand real well if you had the chickenpox if you should or shouldn’t get it.

Shringrix is the more comprehensive newer vaccine, given in 2 shots. It’s in low supply now. If you had chicken pox as a kid, you should probably get it. Its 90 percent effective.

Get the vaccine. You don’t want shingles. Had a minor case and it felt like hot needles under my skin

Good thread.

I'm stopping at CVS tomorrow to find out which type I received in 2015.My sister had to be hospitalized for shingles. That convinced me to get the shot,as I had chicken pox in May of 61'.

Better than getting actual shingles though.

I almost lost half my face to scarring, looked like 2 face for a few weeks (Shingles usually only effects half the face if you get it there), and developed Bell's Palsy for a few days (side effected, cheek drooped down, couldnt move my lips, talked funny)

Did I mention the pain? oh boy does it hurt.

Luckily I was put on strong meds just in time. Im still left with a round dime sized scar on my face from it.

My wife had shingles about 4 years ago....only on her back. She just said that "hot needles under the skin" was correct....for about 3-4 weeks.
Rough stretch for us.

Had the shingles for a month few years back. It was crazy as it appeared out of nowhere when i first got it. Pain was insane and wierd as if my back itched, i felt it in my chest and vice versa. Didnt shower for three weeks but was lucky since i only had it on my chest and back. Esp since i saw pictures of people who had it on their crotch or face...:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Had similar effects minus the fever with the first Shot. I get the second one next week. Hope if goes better, but not likely. It is preferable to the shingles though. My brother had and a great aunt had shingles. I was painful for my brother on one side of his torso, but it was excruciating for my aunt. She had on the side of her face and around around an eye. Eye lids were real painful.

It supposedly is brought on by stress. I can't get rid of my kids or stop following Rutgers so I guess I will always have something that can trigger it.

If it was 2015 you probably got Zostavax the one we make at Merck. If so you’ll want to get the Shingrix one as much as I hate to say it that one is better. Bigly

I was advised to get it. The tiredness and flue like symptom low grade muscle aches for 4 days was a small price to pay compared to what I've seen family members go through with shingles flarups.

Yep the GSK vaccine is significantly better, sad to say. I was going to get the vaccine a few months ago, when, oddly enough, I came down with shingles. I had just seen shingles knock somebody in my group out for weeks (and seen my mom get it pretty badly too) and had made the appointment for the vaccine, when I noticed a small rash on my cheek. I immediately (like within an hour) went to my dermatologist and she said it was great that I noticed it early, as the anti-virals (I took Valtrex) work much better when started early. I ended up with one of the mildest cases of shingles my doc had ever seen. All I had was a little itching, with no other rashes.

I couldn't get chickenpox even though I tried as a kid. Wonder what's that means for me as an adult.

My Doctor told me he has treated very healthy people who wanted to die, the pain was so bad.
I have my script, getting my shot at a pharmacy, second one comes a few months later I guess

Valtrex also made by GSK. Used widely to treat STDs as well as cold sores and other viruses.

No probably about it unless you were in the clinical trial and you would know what you got because of all the consent paper work.

You probably had a minor case with limited side effects and thought it was a flu or other bug
