I really liked him as a referee. If I saw him leading the crew for a game, I knew we were going to get a fairly called game with few-to-no WTF moments. However, in the time that he's been head of SEC officials, quality of officiating has steadily declined. There were two inexcusable situations that happened Saturday: the failure of the officials to admit that they signaled the play dead on the fake punt in our game (ultimately changed the outcome) and miscounting the downs in the Penn State-Auburn game (ultimately didn't change the outcome). There have been many other bad officiating moments over the last several years (the phantom block in the back against Alabama a few years back comes to mind). I don't know if it's the talent pool they draw officials from or if it's poor training, but it's clear the quality of SEC officiating has fallen over the past several years and shows no signs of improving. I don't know if Shaw is part of the problem, but he needs to become part of the solution.

Steve Shaw's last year as SEC Coordinator of Officials was 2019. The job is now held by John McDaid.

Get those relevant facts outta here... We're pissed off about being in a couple of tough games against Memphis and LaTech.

There are currently 3 crew chiefs that I wouldn't trust to competently run the graveyard shift at a snowcone stand.

That game is going to cost us (and the rest of the SEC) money at the end of the year. It's the difference between a Birmingham Bowl payout and possibly a Texas Bowl or Music City Bowl.

Are 3 and 4 win teams getting bowl invites again this year ?

The head ref Saturday is a wealth management consultant in Mountain Brook, Alabama.

This is the issue. The fact that an Alabama based financial services professional is a head ref in the SEC blows my mind. Acting like there isn't a conflict because he didn't attend an SEC school is just asinine. Do you think he would have allowed the game to play out like it did if Auburn or Bama had been the team getting screwed over? Not a chance, because he probably would've walked into the office this morning to find that he was losing a quarter of his clients. Same thing with less egregious, borderline calls....he's going to favor Bama and Auburn because he wants his clients to stay happy with him.

The only way to have competent officials is for that to be their full time job and the way they make a living. Pay them well, hold them accountable when they 17 up, and I can pretty much guarantee we wouldn't see BS like what happened on Saturday.

How about a strong possibility of NO Bowl.
Don’t see it happening unless we beat LSU.
