Considering he took the worst program in College FB and made it a winner from 2005-2012 yes. Have to throw the first 3-4 years out the window. And unfortunately this will be just as bad
I’m on the record that I think the value Schiano 2.0 is vastly overstated here. Yes, you do have to throw out his record his first few years when he was building the dean thing (a remarkable achievement; on this, no one can reasonably disagree).
But his last five years really kind of showed that 2006 was at best Schiano’s apogee and at worst, fool’s gold. He was 16-19 in his last five years in conference — and it wasn’t a great conference. He knew what Rutgers needed to go from a Colgate-style program to a real power conference program, but as a coach? Meh. In retrospect, 2006 looks more and more like a flash in the pan.
Having said all that, Addazzio is a clown. He was on thin ice at Temple before BC was clumsy and desperate enough to take him off their hands. I wouldn’t trust him to hand him the keys of a moribund program such as Rutgers, and even if he got a strong one, I don’t think he’s ever going to do better than the 6-6, 7-5 style seasons he’s compiled at BC. And his schedule there is certainly easier than what he’d face in the Big Ten East.
You’d be advised to pass.
