Staff changes no longer expected per MJ

Has anybody mentioned yet that it doesn't matter since nobody below Cal was responsible
for the mess we all witnessed this year?

None of those assistants were making Cal play his best lineups less than half the time.

None of them were responsible for being afraid to try something new on defense even though we sucked so bad at what we were doing nothing could have been worse.

I think this is an admirable attitude to have. But let me give a scenario example.

Let's say UK had a coach that had 5 future NBA All-Stars on his team. And that coach basically sat them on the bench and never played them. He only played walk-ons.

And then let's say that same coach decided that the team didn't need to practice. That it was too stressful. So they spent practice time in meditation instead.

And let's say that coach really had no interest in basketball. As in, he didn't want to talk about it, do any interviews, show up to any public engagements, or even watch any basketball at all other than UK's games that he's "coaching".

And let's say that coach happens to be the highest paid basketball coach in the country (or one of them).

If all that were the case, would you still be "rooting for him to do well" and care about the team success more than who the coach is? Or would you be critical of the fact they are clearly not doing their job and that team success you want to root for could be so much more if this person actually spent one ounce of effort trying to actually win games?

In that scenario, I doubt that I would be rooting for that coach to succeed because I don't think he would be here. I just think there are some on here rooting for Calipari to fail because they don't like him personally. I believe, whether you like him or not you would want him to coach a successful team; after all we all are rooting for the name on the front of the jersey.

Since 2015 we've had as assistant coaches.

The players change, the assistant coaches change but the results remain the same. At tournament time our players tighten up & we fall flat on our face. I expect the same thing next season.

Let’s get something straight. Lumpy, I’m going to assume you just don’t remember that far back. You go back to 2015 and Calipari nearly had 100% fan support. This program LOVED the guy. That was when everyone here knew he was who he is, what his politics were, and what his history was. There was ONE guy on this board who was against Calipari from the start. Everywhere and nearly everyone loved JVC. So to sit here and act like people just want him to fail and jUsT hAtE cOw is pure nonsense and it’s either you not remembering the truth or you’re flat lying. And not really you I guess, but some here push that junk and it’s easily refutable.

Now I’m going to assume you’re just misremembering and not flat out lying. I choose to believe that. You’ve always been quality so I think we’re all just having a bad year.

Some though, some that spew this tired line, are flat out lying. The truth is they’re caught up in his sales routine and love him so much they don’t care whether he wins or not.

I’ve never cared for the guy personally. But I hope he wins big tomorrow. BUT Since I think he’s bad for this program long haul and he can’t win tomorrow, I do think it’s best we get rid of him however that needs to be. Calipari is hated because he’s turned into a loser and we are a blue blood. This ain’t hard to figure out.

I’m not going to read through all 4 pages but my personal opinion of Matt Jones is that he’s a money grubbing liberal narcissist who will do anything to make a dollar… even peddle information that he’s pulled right out of his a$$. I remember that far back very well. I've been a fan since the early 60's. Never knew what his politics were and I don't think that matters.

I don't know why people would love Calipari until 2015 and then suddenly turn against him. I thought we had good teams up until the 2021 season and the last 4 seasons have been disappointing. I also believe the last 4 seasons have been a result of poor coaching, but Calipari will be the coach next season and I hope he does well because I would love to see another gratifying season in my lifetime.

When I said that some people want Calipari to fail, I wasn't talking about the majority of our fans. Almost all of us want to see the same type of teams that we had in Calipari's early years whether it's him or someone else coaching our team.

I'm not sure it's Cal not trying. The game has changed, and there are alot of really good coaches now, OCD guys that dig deep in teaching details of the game on defense and offense. You can't win big time anymore with just superior talent. And not that Cals a really bad coach he's won alot of games, it's just that he can't teach the finer points that need to be taught to get over the top in todays game and without help which we know he won't take because in his mind he is the smartest man in the room which he maybe in some things like making money but not basketball.
