Why not move the games to warm weather venues and play outside. Retractable roof stadiums would be perfect as they would allow plenty of ventilation. I would expect Golf tourneys such as the Masters will be played with full attendance unless this thing get's out of control since the crowds are in open air outdoor conditions. It would be cool to see. Definitely better than no crowds for at least the final 4.

Not talking about right now, this year...I’m referring to the long haul.
Ah well, that's not the same, because you're right that everyone will catch the flu eventually, but since the flu refers to an infinite number of related but distinct viruses, it doesn't mean everybody will catch the same one. Individual versions of viruses go extinct all the time.

COVID 19 will, too, if all existing patients get past the phase where they shed the virus in their fluids, which will almost certainly occur (in first world countries) within a few months.

Not trying to minimize the disease but 80% of people infected don't even have to be hospitalized.
However, some do, some get very sick and yes unfortunately some even die.

The real worry is 3 fold:
Its new
Its very contagious
No vaccine

Stay calm and pray to the Lord Jesus Christ A. For your salvation
B. For your protection and family
C. For the cure to be found
Is your real name Sanjay Gupta?

I am afraid I will wake up tomorrow only to find out there are no more games to be played. I take vacation every year Wed-Friday to watch all these tournaments.

Price of the Masters tix have dropped $300 across the board if you wanna press your luck (I wouldn't if I were you). Secondly, yes those stadiums are open but you still gotta get through security/ concourse/ bathrooms etc. Which are in enclosed spaces.

I'm so dumb. I'm only now realizing players could get it. In my head, I was just worried about fans spreading. But you put one player on the court sweating and panting, is probably going to infect everyone on the court.

So how do you square the President suspending flights from Europe. Is he blowing this all out of proportion too? He's sure changed his tune from a couple days ago.

Because the Europeans allow travel BETWEEN countries and the Italians didn't halt ANYONE from China for about 2-3 weeks after it first became public. So now to try and cut down on the chances of contamination from an area with a HIGHER amount of people with the virus, he has HALTED ALL travel from Europe.

Not so hard to figure out.

They’ll tell you he fell for the MSNBC propaganda. If the liberal media was a quarter as good as they’re getting credit for being able to create all of this by some on here, Hillary would’ve won every single state in last election.

NCAA is going to be cancelled. To much at risk and if the NBA is suspended there is no way they can push College athletes to play !

But I did hear the NBA and NCAA are planning to crown Duke as both leagues 2020 champion

talking about an over reaction.......... they said suspended.. not canceled. they can just have all the players be tested ......Same with the NCAA....

So you want to prioritize testing people just because we want to play a game??? Great use of resources...

So I guess we will hear who is going pro earlier than expected if this happens. Coach Cal won't be able to recruit for the spring to fill those spots unless he just does it over the phone. Won't be able to have any visits on campus if they are allowed to this time of the year.

I am pretty sure they said he was feeling sick but was going to play anyways. They probably didn't want to take any chances. I wonder if he has been around any family or friends from back home visiting lately?

Why can't they just push the NCAAT back a couple of weeks? Why not just announce it will be delayed until there is more info and more assurances that it will be ok to play?

I still think this is being over played by the media.

The actually say he was feeling sluggish and had body aches. Given the current climate they tested for it.

And we will continue the epic overreaction. I’ll tell you what is done. People who can live their life in spite of fear. Those days are long gone. We are so soft it’s beyond hope. To hell with corona. It pales in comparison to how fear driven we are.

this tournament should proceed as planned
Your plan is awesome until the number of people getting it and needing hospital care is so great, our medical system is completely overwhelmed. There are only so many hospital beds and respirators available. Italy is on lockdown right now because of that scenerio.

I think that's what will happen except they'll postpone it indefinitely and take a wait and see approach.

I mean, that's what the NBA is doing. They didn't say they were completely canceling the season.

The logistical issue then becomes about rescheduling events at all of these arenas that are scheduled for after the season/ tournament.

All 30 teams in the NBA can be linked in the last 5 days. I think it’s safe to say more players will come down with it. Considering the sport is so close contact and then get on team planes with each other, I think the NBA made the right call.

Agreed. Maybe let the top 4 seeds play games at home. I don't know just spitballing.
I'm sure there are plenty of arenas that would be more than glad to accomodate the NCAA that are in the same area or close to the ones they were going to use initially.
I think most fans, teams. coaches, and players would rather wait a couple of weeks and let the teams play in front of fans and full arenas rather than go forward with this current plan.

It's probably not easy to reschedule all these games at all these arenas with only a few weeks of notice. Plus you have to deal with multiple TV channels being available. I imagine the logistics would be a pain. Plus players have to start getting ready for the NBA Draft and have to announce their intentions by like April 25th or somewhere around that time. That date would also have to be changed to delay the tournament. I just don't see all that happening.

I think it could be done but it would take good leadership and that's not something the NCAA has right now.
Do it like they used to do it and have the whole region in one area and arena instread of the ridiculous pod thing they came up with. 4 sites with all the games played there. Start the games around 10am, 15 mins between games. These are young guys who can adjust. Cuts down on a lot of travel and logistics.
East region all in one arena. West, Midwest, South, etc.
That's how they used to do it anyway. No more NCAA courts that are a waste of time and money. Just slap NCAA stickers on the arena floors and play ball.
Do away with the play in games

It wouldn't surprise me to see this country come to a complete, screeching halt over this. Your basic lifestyle is at risk, let alone a sporting game. It's over until next year. Maybe. The media has absolutely incited a panic over this.
The media...lol
Entire countries, including ours, are putting their economies at risk over the media, not medical professionals. Making decisions I’ve never seen in my 56 year life, over the media.
Quarantining cities, even countries, over the media. Trump went on tv tonight and announced unheard of measures, including asking for one quarter of a Trillion dollars to fight the virus, over the media.
Right...

the chances ku would have actually won are minuscule. can’t pick a champion when a 7 round one and done tournament is what decides it.

I'm 75, and I've never seen anything like this. Even the nuclear arms race and cold war wasn't quite like this. The speed of the escalation is Orwellian.

Maybe the psychology part of it will result in a change of behavior from politicians. It would be a nice change for them to stop seeing who could say the dumbest **** and actually try to work together for the better of the country.

Could you imagine if every case of the flu was reported on with hysteria? Imagine the public fear that would spread and the forced overreactions...

Bc that is what is happening right now. Its a variation of the flu but bc every single case is being reported on its creating mass panic (great for ratings though). The Jordan Flu game is put on a pedastool but we cant even play though a flu variant that doesn't even come with the stomach issues. (a fact which also skews the numbers because the majority of the people infected just feel a little off for a few days and then its gone and never knwo they had it; the stomach/nausea is what makes most ppl go to the doctor w the normal flu)

The only difference is there isn't a current vaccine. But many Americans do not get the Flu vaccine yearly anyways (and it is preventative) and once you have it you just let it run it's course.
