I'm feeling a little nostalgic for the South this morning. So what's spooky that has happened to you or stories you have heard from Mississippi or other parts of the South?

Supposedly there is a lady in white who roams Hwy 471 between Fannin and Hwy 43 (north Rankin Co near the Rez). Someone on this board has seen her, but, in spite of traveling that road often, I have not.

I've heard a lot of weird noises in the woods after dark, but haven't run into and Sasquatches, Black Panthers or other myserteous creatures face to face.

My father in law purportedly encountered...

a panther or similarly sized cat in Greene County, MS, earlier this year.
He was taking the trash down to the road after dark, looked over, and saw eyes at the edge of the woods reflecting the street lamp that were more wide-spaced than any dog he'd seen. He picked up a rock and popped it between the eyes (he's got throwing skills), and the creature turned and ran. As it did, he caught sight of a long tail. He came back in spooked enough that my mother-in-law noticed as soon as she saw him.

Sometime in the 60s, I believe, a guy was evading police and ran into the Pike House on campus and was shot and killed over Christmas break. I never had any encounters, but I can name 4-5 people who all lived on the third floor (different semesters) of the house that have claimed to have seen a ghost up there.

I've seen a black panther twice in my lifetime, both back in the late 70's early 80's. Our farm bordered a creek bottom and as a kid we would hear seasonal blood curdling screams echoing from the creek bottom. Dad always said that the cats migrated down the creek bottom at certain times of the year. I know science says it's not possible for a panther to be in North Ms but I trust my own eyes.

I’ve had a panther walk under my climbing stand near the levee in the far NW of Mississippi. Wasn’t black but was tan (like a mountain lion). He had a tail that seemed as long as he was. I stood up in my stand and he looked up at me and then ran off. I climbed down, packed my **** up, and never went back. There have been multiple sightings of the big cat along the levee. I honestly think it’s somebody’s pet that got too big to handle in Memphis and they just let him loose.

Both my sightings were predawn so I can't say for certain that they were black but I can say for certain that they were cats, big cats. One had a herd of about 80 angus cattle herded in a circle like a bunch of wagons in a John Wayne movie The second I walked up on it headed to a deer stand. It was on a low limb just flicking its tail like a house cat. It was as big as a walker dog, jumped down and casually walked away. I had a rifle slung on my shoulder but was frozen, it never occurred to me to shoot it.

As a kid in high school, I would go down to the creek to try to control the beaver population. One night I was almost to the property corner (30-40 feet from the tree line/creek intersection) and I heard a low growl. Didn’t pick up anything with the headlight, so as the chill ran down my spine,I just leveled my Pappaw’s 12 gauge Sears pump shotgun and emptied it in a spread pattern as I was backing away. Reloaded and backed probably a hundred yards toward the house. I just started putting a johnboat in the creek after that.

My wife and I saw a very large black panther like cat in the city of Starkville on Old West Point Road Thanksgiving about two years ago. We both saw it and couldn’t believe our own eyes until we confirmed with each other that we had seen a panther. Or what appeared to be a panther.

Played baseball at Arkansas Monticello. There’s a town 30 min from Monticello called Crosset. There is this thing called the Crosset light.... way down a dirt road in the woods. Spooky as hell. Saw it numerous times and simply don’t know how to explain. It goes from one side of the road to the other in a split second. Changes colors. Seems like it’s getting closer. Goes up and down. You can YouTube it but the videos don’t do it justice. Some say it’s gas light. I don’t know.

Went to JCJC. Found out there’s an old abandoned and ‘haunted’ school in the middle of the woods about 15m from there - can’t remember where exactly. Went with about 15-20 people. We parked on the side of a dirt road and hit a trail in the woods. After a walking a minute or two we found the old school in the middle of a field. Creepy as ****. We carried about 3 flashlights and none of them worked at the school. There was a basement type area that had a lot of desks in it so we all decide to sit in the desks and see what we’d hear. Not long after we sat down it sounded like someone was slamming desks on the ground in the room above us. No one else was in that building. We left. And my flashlight started worked when we left.
Some of my friends wanted to sneak into the abandoned state hospital in Laurel but never got up the courage

Roommate in college always had a light on when he went to sleep. He told me a story about an encounter he had as a kid in Greenville. I think he said he was in 6th grade when he woke up from a noise in his room. He could see something like a dark shadow or outline of a guy in the room with him. All of the lights were off and he described the figure as "darker than dark" because he could see it. He said he just froze and acted like he was still asleep but must have made a noise and they just stared at each other for a while. It started moving slowly again and he got the nerve to run for the door. He hit the lights while running but the guy was gone.

The Crosett light is just hallucinations caused by toxic chemicals released by the paper mill that is bigger than the town.

My sister and brother in law own property next to where Betsy Bell is buried. They said occasionally at night in the woods there’s strange noises and lights.

I saw a tan one about 2 am cross the road in front of me in one bounce. Both sides of the road had about a 6 or 7 foot embankment and a narrow *** county road in Monroe county.

We have sightings and photos around Austin near the hills. Lots of brush and caves in that limestone.

Only have seen one ghost of my cousin who spoke to me.

Does he have any eligibility left?

I was camping in a tent in North Madison County about 8 years ago on our lease of about 800 acres in early December. I woke up in the middle of the night to what sounded like something slamming a 2x4 on the side of a tree in the middle of the woods. It was loud. It happened about 8-10 times and then stopped. I’m guessing it was Bigfoot*. At that time the place was mostly mature hardwoods and pines that were at least 50-60 years old. It has since been clear cut. Scared the crap out of me.

Another time on the same property, I shot a nice buck right at dark in the middle of the woods. I drug the deer about 100 yds up a hill where I thought I could get it loaded onto the golf cart. I was the only one hunting that day, and try as I might I could not get that damn deer on the back of the cart. It was probably 7:30 by that time and when I finally figured out that I wasn’t going to be able to load the deer by myself, a pack of coyotes got fired up about 100 yds away. I could hear them running through the woods in the pitch black dark. Now that’ll make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, but it also somehow makes you feel alive, if you know what I mean. I had to run into town to get help and come back to load the deer.

Chatawa. Tiny town just above Louisiana line. There’s an old abandoned compound called St Mary of the Pines that used to be a retirement convent for Louisiana nuns. There’s an old post office and a working water pump. And some random empty roads that were built for a development called Chatawa Estates that never took off.
But the main spooky aspect is the Chatawa swamp monster. Many years ago a Barnum and Bailey circus train derailed there. Legend is that all the freaks and animals spilled out into the woods and mated into this one swamp monster. They say if u walk the tracks at midnight down by the post office, you won’t be seen again.
One night in high school I was driving around the completely dark roads there with some friends. One was in the middle of a creepy story about the town when my car hit 66,666 miles. We were very relieved when it switched to 66,667.

This is a very personal experience, and I’ve never shared this with anyone because it makes me look like an *******. I was 15 and partying with my friends on a Saturday night. In 1992, the drinking age in Louisiana was 18 and I dated a senior. We were drinking a lot and were trying to figure out what wee were doing for the rest of the night. I decided to go home and was really hammered. I missed my turn to my house in a very rural area and after the fact decided to uturn to go back. I flipped my car twice but don’t remember it. All my parents know is I walked in my front door about a mile from my wreck site and I said a black man in a pickup truck brought me home. My house is down a lone gravel one way driveway. When my parents went outside they said they didn’t see anyone leave the driveway and they said they didn’t hear anyone drive down it. I literally walked into my house with blood streaming down my face, the cops said they were shocked I walked away without major injuries. But all I had was a cut on my forehead and an unexplained ride back to my house.

My dad built his house on a piece of property in northern Winston county. It was built on the same site as a house that burned to the ground in the early 1900's, and we know this because we found the old foundations during the site prep for his home. Several years after its completion, our house caught fire with no discernable cause. He lives a good 20 minutes from the center of Louisville and the whole house should have been fully engulfed by the time the fire department was called and then arrived. But, the fire burned itself out at the exact point where the old foundation and the new house overlapped. We only lost the garage and the kitchen. The fire chief was amazed the whole house didn't burn and had no explanation how the fire extinguished itself.

In the years since we've had numerous episodes of objects being out of place or missing, along with knocks and thuds.
