The kid has a solid resume and experience. That’s fact. That’s all you know. Have to wait to see if we get him. Have to see how he gels with this particular team. Everything else is blathering and BS.

Over 4 turnovers per game and 22% from 3 is far from “out of context” statistics. 5’10 is also an unavoidable liability. If he’s coming to be the backup, I am ECSTATIC. If he’s the starter, I hope to hell he proves me wrong.Wheeler was second-team ALL SEC. You know who voted him to that spot, right? THE CONFERENCE COACHES. That's right, not sportswriters or ignorant fans. The people who truly understand the game and watched him closely throughout the season.
So, pardon me if I'm not impressed by the complaints of people who read a few out-of-context statistics online or watched a couple games on television. If the conference coaches considered him one of the very best guards in the league, that's fine with me.
If he was going to Kansas you would have called him a turnover machine. It is what it is.I was hyping up Devin Askew before last season started too.We will see for ourselves how it works. We all want to think everyone on our team will be stars.I posted this elsewhere, but I'll repeat it. Those statistics are out of context. Here is some context for how he played, compared to one of the best Kentucky PGs of all time in his best year.
1. Wheeler averaged almost exactly the same number of FG attempts per game as second year Tyler Ulis -- the SEC PLAYER OF THE YEAR that year.
2. On those shot attempts -- which includes the 3-point attempts of both -- he averaged 14 points a game, compared to 11 for Ulis, again on the same number of shots.
3. He averaged more assists per game than Ulis, though he wasn't dishing to anywhere near as good teammates, and, someone has to score for an assist.
4. That 22 percent 3-point percentage? He averaged just three 3-point attempts a game. So in a typical game he was missing just over two. That's not killing a team, especially when you consider it was a bad team and many of those were shots-of-last-resort.
As for turnovers: PG on bad teams have more turnovers than PGs on good teams. A turnover consists of a pass and a failed catch often.
The pure facts are that Wheeler is a 5'8 point guard who is a terrible shooter and third in the country in turnovers. But you are convinced the facts don't matter.I’d say the joke is on the person who can’t refute anything I say and is reduced to impotent insults with no rational thought whatsoever.
would you not want a back up pg who started last season in the sec?VERY excited about Tyty. Not happy about Wheeler.
The worry I have is Wheeler will be the starting point guard and Tyty the 2.would you not want a back up pg who started last season in the sec?
ok but if he played himself into that position than that would undermine the whole notion that he isn’t good enough. The worry I have is Wheeler will be the starting point guard and Tyty the 2.
These are really solid points. I loved Ulis’ heart and play making abilities, but he was never the player to me that he was for most, in terms of what you need to win a championship. I’m not a fan of the 5’10 and under PG’s. There’s a reason you don’t see many in the history of the NBA.I posted this elsewhere, but I'll repeat it. Those statistics are out of context. that’s why your not on the staffI guess I had my hopes too high with the new staff.Wheeler doesn't impress me and I would have laughed at Kansas for getting him.
I’d be very surprised if he came here to be a backup. He was second team all-SEC.would you not want a back up pg who started last season in the sec?
Wheeler and his dad really believe he has an NBA future. He wouldn't come her to be on the bench. The only way I see it is if Cal them him both will start.ok but if he played himself into that position than that would undermine the whole notion that he isn’t good enough.
well if we’re platooning that’s not much of an issue. he wouldn’t necessarily be the most accomplished player to not start. that issue may be there regardless.I’d be very surprised if he came here to be a backup. He was second team all-SEC.
So you want him to start over Washington?I do think it's funny that you all think a second team all sec junior is coming here to plat backup. Dude will play a lot of minutes and will be a key piece on this team. The kid can play.
platooning changes that narrative. as far as minutes go there really would be no back ups.I do think it's funny that you all think a second team all sec junior is coming here to plat backup. Dude will play a lot of minutes and will be a key piece on this team. The kid can play.
I’m not sure how anyone with this username could be taken serious, even if they’re right lolI do think it's funny that you all think a second team all sec junior is coming here to plat backup. Dude will play a lot of minutes and will be a key piece on this team. The kid can play.
Cal will never do that again. It really hurt recruiting.platooning changes that narrative. as far as minutes go there really would be no back ups.
I don't care who starts. But if you think that kid is coming here and playing backup minutes you're wrong. And no one knows how good TyTy is yet but I've said for weeks; I'd take a 3rd year Wheeler over any point not named Jaden Hardy at the beginning of next year.So you want him to start over Washington?
Dude if the scouts are right, no way Washington doesn’t start. He looked really good in the allstar game against the best of the best. ESPN has TyTy and Collins as lottery picks. He’s a mix between Knight and Quickley.I don't care who starts. But if you think that kid is coming here and playing backup minutes you're wrong. And no one knows how good TyTy is yet but I've said for weeks; I'd take a 3rd year Wheeler over any point not named Jaden Hardy at the beginning of next year.
You can platoon without really calling it that!Cal will never do that again. It really hurt recruiting.
So you want him to start over Washington?

Never seen Washington play one minute of basketball. I know Wheeler is good and a second team all SEC PG. I’ll let Cal make the decision on who starts. Who really cares who starts.
Again, I really don't care who starts. There is no way Wheeler doesn't play 25+ minutes a game next year. Maybe we play 3 guards, maybe he plays point and TyTy the 2 at times. But Wheeler is one of the best guards in the SEC.Dude if the scouts are right, no way Washington doesn’t start. He looked really good in the allstar game against the best of the best. ESPN has TyTy and Collins as lottery picks. He’s a mix between Knight and Quickley.
I agree 100% with this !!I think opinions of Wheeler will change sometime next season. Kid is a damn good player.
Sure will be fun playing 4 on 5 yet again.I think opinions of Wheeler will change sometime next season. Kid is a damn good player.
I believe it is T-yuh T-yuhSorry, late to the party.
But is TyTy pronounced:

you can sell that for this season at least. with so many more recruits because of the portal it’s likely not going to be a 6-7 man rotation. and if it is probably only at the end of the season.Cal will never do that again. It really hurt recruiting.
Then you know less than nothing about basketball. All you base your statement on is a percentage of the 3pt shot. There are many other variables to consider and the team makeup is one of them.I guess I had my hopes too high with the new staff.Wheeler doesn't impress me and I would have laughed at Kansas for getting him.
You're exactly right Dave. With four players on the squad who can shoot 40% or better from deep Wheeler will have a field day. Keep your chin up armchair gurus.
We also have that he was 3rd in the country in turnovers. Then you know less than nothing about basketball. All you base your statement on is a percentage of the 3pt shot. There are many other variables to consider and the team makeup is one of them.
Exactly. The difference is I'm not citing my opinion, based on scanning a few statistics and watching a game or two on television. I'm citing the opinions of the collective SEC coaches who played against him, game-planned for him, and then named him second team All-Conference. That has some weight.
Your perpetual whines and laments amount to less than a flea farting in the wind.
And?We also have that he was 3rd in the country in turnovers.
