Kyle Tucker as well.Jack Pilgrim said he thinks Tyty and Wheeler will be signed by the end of the weekend.
I'm not a big Wheeler fan but at this point if we can find a seasoned vet who can backup TyTy, I can see why this looks like it will go down. Will probably be the most experienced team Cal has ever started, with TyTy the only frosh. If Wheeler can improve his TO ratio that should be a pretty damn good backcourt. I know Wheeler isn't the greatest 3 point shooter but we should have enough good shooters around him this would work well. Bring em on
I guess I had my hopes too high with the new staff.
And every post you have is that Cal is perfect and never makes a mistake. You still blame covid for last season. You've done an incredible job suppressing your hopes. I've never read anything other than negativity, complaining and pessimism in anything you've posted.
Wheeler was second-team ALL SEC. You know who voted him to that spot, right? THE CONFERENCE COACHES. That's right, not sportswriters or ignorant fans. The people who truly understand the game and watched him closely throughout the season.
So, pardon me if I'm not impressed by the complaints of people who read a few out-of-context statistics online or watched a couple games on television. If the conference coaches considered him one of the very few best guards in the league, that's fine with me.
Jack Pilgrim is very knowledgeable. He is a sophomore at UK and an intern at KSRJack Pilgrim said he thinks Tyty and Wheeler will be signed by the end of the weekend.
Forget Step Curry.Just a little over 22% I would take.Wheeler is a floor general, and Washington shoots 40% from 3 and can play off the ball.
I think playing with more talent and not having to do as much will ease Wheeler’s turnover issues.
It’s obviously a buzz kill to me, because I was hoping for Hardy. But Wheeler is a role player that has a place on this team, even if he doesn’t shoot like Steph Curry like everyone here seems to think all PGs should be able to do.
It's not sounding like he will return. If true I bet Mintz is gone...they say anything about that?
Word. It's not sounding like he will return.
Wheeler may beat him outI'm not a big Wheeler fan but at this point if we can find a seasoned vet who can backup TyTy, I can see why this looks like it will go down. Will probably be the most experienced team Cal has ever started, with TyTy the only frosh.
This is true. Time to work his magic. Why has nobody mentioned the Chin Coleman factor. Apparently he’s really good with guards, and helped the guards at Illinois become very good. He can do the same with TyTy and Wheeler.
He will have his work cut out with Wheeler. This is true. Time to work his magic.
Hey Smash, just showing a little gratitude toward you by saying “thanks” for rolling out some great content here. It might not seem hard for some, but I do know it takes some diligence to post the information that is relevant and highly interesting to us Cat fans.I'm not a big Wheeler fan but at this point if we can find a seasoned vet who can backup TyTy, I can see why this looks like it will go down. Will probably be the most experienced team Cal has ever started, with TyTy the only frosh.
The difference is I'm not citing my opinion, based on scanning a few statistics and watching a game or two on television. I'm citing the opinions of the collective SEC coaches who played against him, game-planned for him, and then named him second team All-Conference. That has some weight. And every post you have is that Cal is perfect and never makes a mistake. You still blame covid for last season.
The stats aren't lies.22% from 3 and third in the nation in turnovers. You are what your numbers say they are.The difference is I'm not citing my opinion, based on scanning a few statistics and watching a game or two on television. I'm citing the opinions of the collective SEC coaches who named him second team All-Conference. That has some weight.
Your perpetual whines and laments amount to less than a flea farting in the wind
This is a big pro.I'd be thrilled to have Wheeler as our backup to TyTy. Solid veteran experience. No issues there.
This is a big pro.
As the man said, "there are lies, damn lies and statistics." For example, that often-cited 22 percent 3-point percentage. You do realize that he only took an average of three a game? So, he wasn't exactly shooting his team out of the game. His freshman season his 3-point percentage -- and attempts -- were almost identical to.....John Wall at Kentucky. The stats aren't lies.22% from 3
I'm fine with him as a backup point guard but not a starter. As the man said, "there are lies, damn lies and statistics." For example, that often-cited 22 percent 3-point percentage. On the other hand, he had more assists per game than any Kentucky guard of the Calipari era, including second-year Tyler Ulis and John Wall. And that's with a mediocre Georgia team. Surround him with Frederick and Grady and Allen and he might have even MORE assists. If so, missing a couple 3-point shots a night won't kill anybody.
Agree. And it’s easier to coach to reduce turnovers than to teach natural court vision. And a by product of a better more efficient assists/turnovers ratio is who is on the court to finish those passes. What’s with all the childish name calling in this thread??? It’s reasonable to be alarmed by Wheeler’s turnover and poor outside shooting numbers. It’s also reasonable to trust the coaching staff and their talent evaluating abilities. Neither position is outlandish or requires ridicule.
