A “1.b” to this is the person at red light with one turning lane, with their head down looking at their phone. They squeak by at yellow and you have to sit through another round of lights.

Yep. Kinda like the folks who yield when they have their own lane and a perfectly visible sign telling them they have their own lane.

I always get behind the person on the smart phone. I always miss the green light. Put your freaking phone down and drive.

Not me bro. I'm gonna post the details of the infamous night one last time here. I was driving to the State basketball game doing 78. BOTH lanes were completely congested with the right lane full of semi-trucks. When I would get too close to the semis while I was on the right I would switch to the left lane to pass them but at times there were so many of them in a row that it was taking me longer to pass all of them before I'd find a comfortable gap than the ******** driving 90 liked so they would dangerously switch into smaller gaps of space than I was willing to move into to pass me. They did it every time. I don't have to move into a small gap of space that would be technically illegal just to appease some dickhead doing 90 all while I am still actively PASSING THE SAME 17ING TRUCKS he wants to. If y'all still can't understand this it's because you're a 17ing dumbass who doesn't drive in heavy traffic often. Not my problem.

The one that gets my goat (does anyone still say that??) is when there is a flashing signal to merge lanes because of construction and so I merge on over while the ******* 2 miles behind who saw the sign wants to speed up to the very last minute and then some douchebag lets them in. I've started driving in the middle of the road so people can't do that. Unless it's an 18 wheeler. I'm not 17ing with those guys.

Are you under the assumption that traffic laws apply to police officers?
Having ridden with a Mississippi Sheriff and several deputies on the way to Newk’s for lunch with no emergency lights on......no. 100+ both ways on the interstate. Driving with one hand, carrying on a conversation like we were on a sunday drive.

That same 17er drives between Madison and Jackson every morning.

And after 5. Madison to Gluckstadt at approx 5:15 is the largest collection of idiot drivers in MS at any single given time.

It’s amazing to me that the cars passing you not only had room to fit in the space you couldn’t fit in but were able to pass you in the right lane, while in that tiny space you couldn’t fit in.

If I remember right, this happened on I-75. Not sure what part but I grew up very near 75 in Tampa and and out of all the times I’ve been on that road I struggle to think of a time when there was a never ended line of semi trucks.

This is the drive on I10 from the coast to Mobile always. It’s awful. Both lanes are packed all the way and there’s really nothing to be done about it. I absolutely hate people that drive in the left lane, my entire family can attest to that. But on that drive if you go from the left lane to the right you ain’t getting back over for a while when you need to pass.

Nah what's amazing/annoying/insert other less nice adjectives here is that two years later you still want to argue details with someone else during a situation you weren't even present for.

Take the bait to you trolling. At least you finally admit it weirdo.

Oh you think entire board has not been trolling you since you made the post? Do you think everyone enjoys talking about how bad a driver you are? Or do you think everyone on the board just enjoys trolling you?

Ever heard of the zipper merge?

Yes completely changing his story.

Also, if there is a long line on the right with no gaps, it’s way safer and less nerve racking to speed up some and get around them and move over and settle back in at your “78”.

This is true under the circumstance that both lanes are full up to the point of merger.

It also completely disregards that no matter how you merge the speed is 100% dependent on the speed at the bottleneck.

As someone that makes almost daily post office drops with one such turn that tends to back up, this one absolutely kills me. First car takes 3-4 seconds to start moving, second car takes 3-4 seconds, invariably the 3rd or 4th will force someone to honk, and about 5 total make it through the light in 30 seconds. The people 6th-20th in the original line make it through on the second light though, usually.

If a car has a chance to pass you to the right, even if they go hammer down and hit 90mph in the process, and don't come within 2 ft of killing themselves or someone else -- you actually had plenty of room to move over and let them by.

Dawg61 is that guy that runs into ******** all day and still can't figure out why...

What annoys me is social drivers. I spend a lot of time driving cross country pulling a trailer and like to be as much by myself as possible on the road. Never fails that people like to bunch up around me though regardless of how much I speed up or slow down. Has always pissed me off, although someone posited a thought on here that I hadn't really considered before that helped explain the situation to me as a function of adaptive cruise control.

The ******** are the ones who start merging miles too early and cause unnecessary traffic jams. It's totally legitimate to use a lane that's there.

Traffic laws do apply to police officers....

Are you under the assumption that traffic laws apply to police officers?

They are just not enforced against them, even while off duty, out of uniform, and driving personal vehicles. They call it 'professional courtesy'. I call it 'institutional hypocrisy'.

You’re wrong in this situation. And why would you think it’s ok to take up 2 lanes while driving? **** I’d prefer dawg61‘s driving rather than this.

I’m with you. The concept of zipper merging is right in congested areas. When there is plenty of space and a car “zips” in last minute, That is not efficient. Your 2 second brake turns into a 4 second brake for the car behind you and so on and so on. 20 cars later a car is having to slow down or stop for 30 seconds.

Not that I believe the revisionist history, but if you're talking about the space between two 18 wheelers, that's probably not strictly true. You'll definitely be putting yourself in a distance where the 18 wheeler behind you won't be able to stop if you have to stop quickly. Of course, with an 18 wheeler in front of you, presumably you're not going to have to stop particularly quickly, but still, it would be better for the *** in the left lane to just speed up and pass more quickly than to get in between two 18 wheelers.

Left lane drivers are bad but the complete lack of understanding of how a four way stop works is going to lead to the collapse of modern civilization.
