This isn’t about who played more minutes or fewer minutes, it was about hustle, intensity, and effort. The 3’s were big, but the fast breaks, steals, dunks, assists, and blocks were just as big.

We got outrebounded by a weak rebounding team.

we got hot from 3 and Indiana went to the floor with one punch.

the possession before the Geo 3 that started the run Ron drove to the lane and had a simple jump stop and a bounce pass for a Myles dunk. Instead he ran right through the stop sign and committed a turnover. We were playing like garbage and then shots started to fall.

we went on a devestating 57-22 run which may be our biggest ever against a legit opponent not named Keene State or St Bonaventure

Hey now if we want to crow over taking 5 of 6 from IU we must acknowledge that we've lost 2 straight to the Bonnies

idk I’m really not convinced that’s all it is

Starting with Syracuse and including Iowa because Caleb only played 11 minutes he's played 20 in all but Penn state after:

Harper 41/50 (51%) from the floor before Caleb and 46/130 (35%) after Caleb joined the rotation... More specifically 27/78 (34%) after the lineup change

Young 33/67 (49%) before Caleb and 63/138 (45%) after and 37/82 (45%) after lineup change

Mathis 32/72 (44%) before Caleb and 20/70 (28%) and 12/39 (31%) after the lineup change

Interesting stats but during the 4 game losing streak we had in January Young played more minutes than McConnell each game....and then during the 5 game winning streak that followed McConnell played more minutes than Young in 4/5 of this games.

So that pretty much debunks your theory.

Our team is inconsistent and streaky. It’s more about playing the guys that are hot or are playing well together.

You guys sound like a broken record with this weird stuff. Unless I missed it, Young wasn’t physically dropping in Harper and Bakers 3’s.

1. Confidence ( shots started to fall)
2. 3 pointers (key to the modern game whether stubborn coaches care to acknowledge or not)
3. Instinct ( You cannot have any doubts when you play at this level, you have to play without fear and they did tonight)
4. Rotation ( As I have said, Jacob is the key and we cannot lose Montez)
5. Cliff is getting back to where he was before the injury, he will be a beast in the future
6. When Geo and RHJ make 3's, we can beat any team in the country, it's that simple

I mean I hear everything about the ball going in, but the effort and attitude was noticeably improved even before the ball starting falling in
I must have been watching a different game the first 11 or so minutes. The effort was not what it needed to be and that was clearly impacting the attitude.

To me it was more Geo than Harper. We need Geo to take over games and put this team on his back for us to win. That's what happened last year. That's what happened last night.

No love for Geo or Harper?
Both had great games as well but imo their great play had alot to do with the lineup combos and allowing JY to run with the right guys, speed them up and get them transition jumpers, transition buckets, and wide open looks on dribble drives. I think 3 of geos 3’s were assists on JY’s dribble drives

To me, this was far more than simply shots falling. What stood out to me was the ball movement and player movement on offense. No one was holding the ball or just stagnantly dribbling. The ball was moving quickly and with purpose as were the players. This was the sharing of the game/ball that the pundits such as Bilas were gushing over in December and had us up 16 against OSU. I would love to see a stat comparing the average number of passes per possession last night versus the last 6 weeks. We can argue cause and effect in terms of whether the ball movement led to better shot opportunities or shots being taken in rhythm and not forced versus the shot making created the ability for ball movement. I believe it is the former. Either way it was terrific to see that level of play again.

Paralysis through analysis.
Look at the box score after the game.
If Geo and Ron score 15 or more points apiece , I guarantee we win....lol

I was happy to see the transition game return. We finally started to finish. Note that we made 3s but only a few were in halfcourt sets. We made them in transition kick outs. That was the case early on too. To get those opportunities, you have to execute in transition which we hadn’t done well at all until today for a long time. Finally finishing again!
But has to be by design.. To be allowed and even encouraged by the coach. Prior to game, many here said stop shooting threes.. Pound it inside. I think we saw the solution was the opposite of that... And that would be true wheter the ball went in or not. That is.. this style we saw is where we are our best.. And if you do not take the threes you have no chance at all to make em. And if you wait until you NEED threes, that adds pressure and you are not taking them in the same way they were taken in this game.

I was at the loss in Toronto to the Bonnies in November 2019. Myles got hit with 2 fouls in the first minute and we never recovered. I would like to play them again this season. The refs didn't let him play that night just like a few games this season as well. There were only about 20 of us RU fans there against a few thousand Bonnie fans. They were celebrating like we were no challenge.

I think Sojo's take is way way off.

Consider the REASON why McConnell stated playing.. we had suffered multiple injuries and he thught he could help. The injuries were the reason our stats became worse... not a new player added to the mix.

During the game when things were going well early in the second half we saw longtime fans suggesting we don't make ANY substitutions and that that starting 5 should play the whole 20 minutes. I argued that because things were going well the subs would adjust and play well.. in the same style we were playing. And that happened. Caleb got crucial rebounds.. he played his part... so did Mathis and Omoruyi. The same thing was true in the early season when we played this fast paced style and shot threes at will. We could go 10-11 deep then.

IMO, It is not about subs messing things up.. its about confidence and playng a style that plays to the strengths of the starters... some of which will always be out there with the subs.

2 things mess us up.. early fouls on our bigs where they cannot be rim defenders anymore.. and being forced into half-court offenses... and for the latter I think taking more open threes helps with that. Opens up the half-court.. alows for more offensive boards and alley-oops... and swining the ball around for those threes does the same.. allowing for drive penetration too.

Down 15 it would have been very easy to say.. hey, lets slow things down.. lets pound the ball inside... come back 2 at a time. Clearly.. that was not the answer.. for R team. It is not the subs.. it is the style.

Shortened the bench, found the right rotation and stuck with it. Plus shots started falling and confidence soared.
This... missing shots is a slippery slope. You miss, you get down, you miss more because you're down, then you sink even further, get really out of sync and then it's a wrap.

On the hand, shots fall, you start feeling good, feeling confident, energy goes up, enthusiasm goes up, you start having fun and making plays.

One of the biggest challenges in sports and in life is fighting through it when things are bad. 90% mental is an understatement. These guys all have the ability to be great, but it's getting the mental to match the physical is where the difference is made.

I must have been watching a different game the first 11 or so minutes. The effort was not what it needed to be and that was clearly impacting the attitude.

early on this season, there was serious talk about RU not only making the NCAA, but making a deep run..... personally I thought we might be good enough to get to the elite eight..... not just me, but several TV commentators, because we were hitting on all cylinders

today, even with this win, I think we are going to fall well short of that, and it is unfortunate to think that way

the reason is, that, even when we win now, there are long spells of not scoring.....6 minutes, 7 minutes....and in some cases, multiple non scoring spells within the same game

we can get away with that against not so great teams, Indiana for one.....but, we cannot do that against a very good team and expect to come back, because that very good team might not have a dry spell.

we need to go back to the early season form of hitting those threes and no long bad stretches, stay in the game

Caleb played his least amount of minutes in 6 weeks.

Young played his most minutes in 6 weeks.

The fix was staring us in the face all along
It also didn't hurt that Geo and Ron FINALLY hit their shots they're capable of.
