FWIT, Ron Higgins is a pro and the perfect hire for the CL, in my opinion. He's a veteran who knows the SEC inside – a helluva good reporter and that makes him a helluva good columnist. He has respect of both his peers and coaches and ADs around the South. He'll call it like he sees it. And he won't mind taking a stand. Plus, he'll work his *** off. He inherits a really young staff, who will benefit from his experience and knowledge.

The only interaction that I ever recall with him was years ago when he and Brando were defending Byork and Freeze. I’ve read maybe 2 columns by the guy, but I’ve heard him on Memphis radio a whole lot, and there is no doubt he hates State. So you’re correct, he is the perfect hire for the CL, though not for the reasons you mentioned.

Higgins is actually a good writer. I think his issue was with Jackie not necessarily MSU. I enjoyed reading his LSU coverage the last few years. He will be an journalistic upgrade from Kellenberg, Dusty Hampton, Knobler although he will still follow the Clarion Ledger company line regarding Ole Miss & Oxford
