At least we know this one hates us before he even gets started. No i don’t read the CL. I just saw this on Twitter.

To tell you how bad he is. I barely know who he is. I am not blocked by anyone on Twitter except for Clay Chandler and we know why there. But I am blocked by him.

I'm blocked as well and State stuff is about a 10th of what I usually tweet about.

Blocked me

When I asked how he could say State was the worst basketball team in the SEC, right after we had just won two conference games. I don’t remember all the details but he went out of his way to take a cheap shot at us and Rick Ray. Nice guy, great hire

He had a weird vendetta against Rick Ray.

Didn’t his son play football for State for a year or two back in the Jackie Sherril era, or was that a different former Commercial Appeal writer?

I'm not blocked so I gave his twitter feed a quick perusal. Several sharks such as Bjork and shark apoligists have already welcomed him on board. Imagine that.

Yeah Jackie gave him a preferred walk on spot in 2002 I believe. He was an OL. Too fat and too slow. Couldn’t move his feet.

Ron Higgins is turrible. Not terrible.....turrible. he was a big LSU homer when he wrote for the commercial appeal, and he loved him some UT Vols too.

Sigh.

FWIT, Ron Higgins is a pro and the perfect hire for the CL, in my opinion. He's a veteran who knows the SEC inside – a helluva good reporter and that makes him a helluva good columnist. He has respect of both his peers and coaches and ADs around the South. He'll call it like he sees it. And he won't mind taking a stand. Plus, he'll work his *** off. He inherits a really young staff, who will benefit from his experience and knowledge.

With as many State fans as he’s blocked for seemingly no apparent reason, he comes across as petty and thin-skinned. So perfect for the Clarion-Ledger, I guess. I’m sure he’ll continue to give both State and Ole Miss the varying degrees of coverage to which they’ve become accustomed.

I have never been blocked by anyone to my knowledge on twitter but tried to read his twitter post and guess what? Yep, I’m blocked. The only interaction that I ever recall with him was years ago when he and Brando were defending Byork and Freeze. Judging from this thread and the number of people he has blocked, his thin skin and defensiveness toward State folks should be par for the course.

I am also blocked. Not really sure why

Media people that block people on social media are blowhards. Grow a pair - you’re in the press where opinion and thoughts shouldn’t be shunned. For the record I am not blocked.

Tim Brando blocked me several years ago...

Because I reminded him that he said it would be a cold day in hell before Ron Polk left Georgia to come back to State. The situation revolved around something of a similar nature with a coach. Amazing to me how thin skinned he is. I simply reminded him of something he actually said.

He has also blocked damn near every MSU fan on twitter which is kind of goofy when most aren’t even sure why they are blocked

I’ve read maybe 2 columns by the guy, but I’ve heard him on Memphis radio a whole lot, and there is no doubt he hates State. So you’re correct, he is the perfect hire for the CL, though not for the reasons you mentioned.

Higgins is actually a good writer. I think his issue was with Jackie not necessarily MSU. I enjoyed reading his LSU coverage the last few years. He will be an journalistic upgrade from Kellenberg, Dusty Hampton, Knobler although he will still follow the Clarion Ledger company line regarding Ole Miss & Oxford

"The reason there is such a desperation for the Rebels and the Bulldogs to rise above the norm is the state of Mississippi annually has the lowest ACT score nationally, thus reducing the pool of academically qualified in-state athletes.
The best ones that are academically qualified want to sign with a college program that they feel has a chance to win a championship, not one that struggles to get to 8 and 9 wins.
If somehow either Ole Miss or Mississippi State strings together excellent recruiting classes, it's just a cue for buzzards from both sides of the rivalry to start circling looking for carcass to hand NCAA investigators.
It's a velodrome of recruiting hell to which there is no escape.
Right now, it's Ole Miss trying to rebuild its program despite NCAA sanctions.
But somewhere out there are some vindictive Rebels' fans, looking for the slightest illegal crack in the Bulldogs' recruiting armor.
Unfortunately, in this never-ending misery-loves-company soap opera, Mississippi State has next whether it wants it or not."

He sounds hungry for a story....

Exactly, over the years he has apparently been blocking every single State fan that he comes across on Twitter, even ones that did not interact with him. That is BS for a sportswriter, and he can’t fix that now by saying “Oh my bad, I unblocked everyone.” Zero chance that this hire goes well.

Unfortunately the last 40 years of Mississippi State/Ole Miss football history supports the paragraph you quoted
