This is the crap that has to stop under Cal
Idiot. Have you paid any attention to kids transferring from other schools? This is not abnormal at all. Go be Cards fan. None of those guys are transferring.

Keep laughing. We will never win another title with Cal with this crap happening. I’m sure you thought no way Jones would leave just like you think Green won’t.

I sincerely hope that our title hopes don't hang on a player averaging 3 and 2.

However, I loved SKJ's game when he showed it. He appeared to be coming into his own a little towards the end.

You don’t think this culture of “if I’m not a star after two years transfer or go pro somewhere” isn’t a negative thing??
It's a negative for the player, not really for the coach or program. If that's the attitude of the player, is it not best for the school and team that they move on?

Some apologies are due from some of you. I recall a post a week or so ago where a poster was saying this was happening and everyone jumped all over him. Now, maybe it was guess work, but unfortunately it is happening.

This is a bad situation and suggesting that because he "isn't that good" totally misses the point. If some haven't learned by now, experience is a key. SKJ was better than Richards in my view this past season and more mobile, knew how to set picks, etc. Unless we are getting Anthony Davis, losing an experienced big man is going to hurt us.

Certainly better than Richards as of now, yes. Just hope Richards starts to put it together as a Sophomore. The potential for a good player's there, just needs a lot of work.

EJ replaced Knox. SKJ's main competition for playing time was Richards and I guess he wanted more so I will just wish him good luck but I'm never happy to see a player transfer.

I would not be surprised to see Wenyen and Diallo declare for the draft this week also. Sure hope PJ and Vanderbilt stay or we're gonna need a couple more big guys.

Here's the double edge sword. 4-year guys that don't want to be recruited over. Just like Charles Matthews, it isn't the end of the world, but there will be a time we need him and his absence will hurt us. But we have to get Montogomery to protect against a Vanderbilt or PJ defection so we have collateral damage in the process of losing SKG. Just get ready, if we sign Hagans, expect Green to be the next one. I can't blame Cal but you hate to see a solid vet leave.

Oh and so many on here said this wasn't going to happen and yet here we are.

Damn really thought SKJ was gonna have a good next year with us. Whatever.

So Tai and SKJ were the two transfer rumors that became real.

It sucks, as a fan. But what can Cal do to change it? He already stays under 13 scholarship limit so he can try to keep them all happy. But if they want to leave, ya gotta let them leave.

By the way, SKJ averaged 14 minutes a game this season, and played 15 or more minutes 16 times.

This idea that he wasn't given a chance isn't accurate. He just sees the writing on the wall and didn't want to share the minutes again this year.

It's going to happen if you recruit elite kids every year.

His mom was adamant he would not transfer and that Cal's development plan was working. This smells like another coaching staff got in his ear without his family knowing.

This sucks because a team needs upperclassmen leadership to win a title. Even if he wasn't a star, he had multiple years of experience and he could help the underclassmen this summer and fall.

LMAO, Wenyen might decide to leave, but it wont be for the NBA draft. He wouldn't come close to getting invited to the combine, let alone the draft.

So a player that wasn’t good enough to play leaves is crap? He had all the opportunity in the world to play meaningful minutes this season and couldn’t produce on a consistent basis. Maybe he can still improve but I think he made the smart choice if he wants to play extended minutes somewhere. It obviously wasn’t going to happen at UK with the amount of talent Cal brings in.

Not the end of the world, but don't love it. Would be nice to have a 6"10 20 or 21 year old in the rotation. He'd have 2 years under his belt, and it certainly would be nice to have him available as a back up big.
I agree. Figured he’d be a very nice junior but can’t cry over spilt milk.

so nice to see all the posters bashing SKJ now are the same ones on the high horse blasting anybody who criticizes Diablo or Vanderbilt or whoever else.

How do we know what happened in this situation?

Maybe the kid wanted to go to a school that would guarantee him a starting spot. These things don't happen overnight. I would imagine Sacha's people have already set up schools that he will consider transferring to.

Why does it have to be all on Cal?

If Gabriel, Vando, Washington return and EJ is added, I think the minutes in the front court will be limited and the competition great. If he transfers to UNC Charlotte or the like, he will get big minutes. I can understand this decision. Just wish he wanted to win the spot here.

The debate rages on. One group will see this as an opportunity to add an unproven recruit and others will see a potential Darius Miller or Josh Harrellson gone. I’m sure some were glad when a player left to make room for SKJ. Best of luck SKJ, maybe you’ll become a Charles Matthews.

I don't think losing the kind of kid who is worried about losing playing time as a junior is going to hurt the program.

Make an honest rotation based on what we have coming in. Find where SKJ falls into that.

Now tell me what Cal is supposed to do to fix that. We didn't even recruit a big this year until recently, and you could easily speculate that we added Montgomery because SKJ was leaving.

So you're saying Cal has to stop a culture where guys who come back have failed, in a year where a guy is transferring because all our bigs came back.

Cal just wouldn't play him for whatever reason. You could see flashes of what he was capable of all the time but just couldn't get the playing time. This is the first time I've felt Cal really made a mistake by not getting a player enough playing time.

Here's a history lesson, doof warrior.

Players that left UK early under Tubby, either as transfers or entering the draft and not being selected. Listed by recruiting class.

97- Ryan Hogan, Myron Anthony, Michael Bradley (and I'll cut Tubby some slack on that, since he wasn't the coach who signed those guys)
98- Desmond Allison, Todd Tackett
99- Marvin Stone, Nate Knight, Marquis Estill
00- Jason Parker
01- Rashaad Carruth, Adam Chiles
02- Bernard Cote
03- Shagari Alleyne
05- Rekalin Sims, Adam Williams
06- Derrik Jasper (though we'll plant most of that at Clyde's feet)

Richards was better and it wasn’t really close. SKJ was never as good as many on here made him out to be. Losing him does hurt this team much if at all.
Richards is a horrible basketball player. He hasn't been playing all that long and it shows.
