This is just the beginning. I suspect that someone will create such academies in even the cold states, because of the expansion of charter schools. Someone will figure out how to do it just right in each state. You have elite players getting grants, and you'll have wealthy families paying for their kids, then you'll have apparel sponsorships.

A lot of high schools have apparel deals in California already. Calabasas high school in California, which is an elite private school,($$$$) has an Addidas contract that pays for all their teams uniforms and cash to help keep their sports programs going. They recruit kids from all over the West coast to go there. The area is also very wealthy with a few retired pro athletes and seems to be a favorite place for financial folks.(hedge fund managers, stock company CEO's)

Wasn't there a public school doing the same thing a few years back? I recall reading about a school in north jersey where the coach was paying for kids apartments

Yep. North Bergen and Vinnie Ascolese.

That's why it means nothing when recruits say "Rutgers is in the mix." They all say it and have no intention of coming here. I also said that he did not go to IMG Academy to go to Rutgers and was blasted for it. I didn't expect him to come here.

Spot on.

That hunt article took a nice quote about RU and tried to make it something more than it was. The writing was on the wall when he transferred to img. No recruit is going to tell an nj.com reporter that he appreciates the RU offer but he has better options than a team that lost 78-0.

Seems like 2018 is a good year for qb prospects. I'm sure ash will do fine.

Ho-hum. Another on the long list of threads started by the OP that mean, essentially, nothing.

Geez, this is an 18 year old. They change their mind all the time. As months go by they see things differently, recruiters try like hell to change their mind. And Richt has got to be a pretty effective guy. He didn't string us along til NSD. He didn't commit and change his mind Feb 3rd. Are we supposed to assume that every kid who's expressed interest in RU has to sign up?

Gimme a break. He wasn't a fit for our system. We can still try to flip him if we want. Just because he's from NJ and likes RU doesn't mean we own him. If Ash wanted him that bad, he should've recruited him harder (but he probably didn't).

We're a year away from NSD and you're going nuts. Take a pill.

You guys have to realize that highly ranked Pro-style QBs are not going to commit to RU if it is running this offense. Please accept that.

His quote was more specific than the ol' "rutgers is in the mix".... it was : "The dream is to play for the home state and play for Rutgers. ". http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/i...4-star_qb_artur_sitkowski_a_priority_for.html

I assumed he was just playing to the crowd, but that kind of quote gets people's hopes up more so than the ol' "rutgers is in the mix" quote.

generally alot of these kids say alot of stuff that is just bs..grown men should not be believing anything that comes out of these kids mouth, their opinons change with the wind.

People say he didn't fit our offense. We didn't have an offense last year!!!!!!!!! And we still don't until proven otherwise.

New article by Todderick today:
http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/i...rtur_sitkowski_despit.html#incart_river_index

This kid seems to be all over the place. And we were in third place behind Wisconsin. But we were ahead of Florida! I would have thought the state of Florida and Miami was most attractive. In the end, it seems he favors the pro-style offense of da U. Snippets of quotes:

"Yeah, I'm gonna listen to what the coaches have to say," he said. "Again, this is a verbal. I mean, so I can still listen. But I am a commit to Miami."

"I had a little idea. On Friday night, I talked to my family about Miami would be the place," he said. "It's a great place. We're bringing the U back and I want to be a part of that. I want to be a part of something special at Miami with coach (Mark) Richt, especially with that offensive system and all that he's done with the quarterbacks who went on to play at the University of Miami."

However, the decision wasn't easy.

"It was hard, it was hard, it was very hard," he said. "It was hard turning down my home state, turning down a lot of great opportunities to go out and pursue other places. But you know, this thing's not over, so anything can happen."

"Not necessarily, because I didn't know how I was gonna like Florida. I know it's hot down here, so I really didn't know," he said. "But, I mean, even before leaving Jersey, I had a pretty good idea about Miami and what coach has done with the quarterbacks and what he's doing with Miami bringing the culture back."

One thing that influenced Sitkowski's decision was the Canes' offensive philosophy.

"At Miami, they run a pro-style system," he said. "Everything that you see on Sundays, they do on a Saturday. So it's just like an NFL system, so it's great.

"I like the system and I feel like I fit it really well," he continued. "And it will get me ready to play on Sundays. It'll give me an opportunity."
