Yup. I saw a lot of players on both sides of the ball get a chance to play in the Gator Bowl.

Hey maybe next year when we get in the Fiesta Bowl with a 3-9 record GS will let him throw another pass, he might as well spread the cheer it’s the holidays.

i was also looking to see more from Simon. I thought he played well against Maryland and seem to have a good arm and some mobility. I hope we can find a way to keep developing him and GW. we need to find a way to keep him happy otherwise we might lose a quality young QB to the portal, which is something we can't afford. We need at a minimum two quality QBs that can run the offense and one-two others that are developing/the future.

They saw what he could do against Maryland. Wanted to see what Wimsatt could do in this game.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s in the portal.

That’s one way of looking at it, I’m sure if his family was there at the game or gathering at a family member’s house to watch the game they were thinking the same thing.

That was my thought. This game had multiple goals besides just winning imo.

Yep, this game definitely was focused on more than winning. The coaches now have game film on a bunch of players they can refer to leading up to and during spring practice.

Go back into the smelly hole from which you came.

We need a bigger rock to cover that hole!

I understand what your saying about dropping down a level but when you have been recruited over and may only get garbage time on the field your entire college career if you’re lucky , many will choose to start at a lower level and possibly get into the league through the back door.

Everyone on the team who isn’t playing can try to go into the portal and drop down and hopefully play more, but there are big risks, lots of players have gone into the portal and found they have no takers. We always focus on the players in the portal that we and everyone else are chasing after, but a much larger percentage of players going into the portal have attracted little interest, mainly guys like Simon who haven’t played much. At least at Rutgers next year he is one injury away from playing.

Simon was undecided on transferring before the game. I hope his lack of PT didn't push him into the portal. He beat out Ohio State's Marvin Harrison, Jr. as Pennsylvania Mr. Football in 2020, so you know he has to have plenty of confidence in his ability.

Personally, I think he has a lot to contribute to the program, but I would not be surprised to see him in the portal soon.

He couldn't have been thrilled with being pulled after one friggin play.

He’s not a perfect fit for our system but I think he throws a nice pass. He runs pretty well. He has gotten a lot of practice reps which Gavin has not. This helps even them out going into the Spring.

Hell.. I suggested STARTING Simon to.. hopefully.. get the idea that we were determined to pass... thereby setting up the run and our running QBs.

I met his mother the day before the game in Jacksonville. Lovely woman, talked about what a rollercoaster this has all been. They were hoping he’d get some action in the game.

When Rutgers played a different QBs on 4 consecutive plays I knew we weren't taking the game seriously.
Question, if we weren’t taking the game seriously, you would have no problem with players opting out. If the coaching staff doesn’t take the game seriously why should the players😂

I get it, some fans either (a) don’t like Noah or (b) think Gavin isn’t ready (or good). The coaches believe otherwise. We also wanted to work in Johnny Football, which has been a part of the offense for 2 years.

All of that is a way of saying that we can’t play everyone. Simon knows his role on this team. He’s the #3 next year and probably the #2 thereafter. Backup QBs play a lot in college so he’ll have more than one opportunity. If that’s not good enough he’ll move on in the spring.

Players opted out before the game was played. But if coach said.."hey guys, we're gonna try a few different things and just go down there and do the best we can and just have fun".. then I'd have to agree.

I think there is a good chance Simon jumps ahead of Vendral on the depth chart. Vendral has plateaued at this point, he is not getting better. Simon is still young and improving, and over 8 months i won’t be surprised if he is backing up Wimsatt.

Shame Simon did not get more time, I think he earned it. Really don't want to think about next year with only Vedral and Wimsatt. Vedral is a gamer but the reality is we don't score points against P5 teams with him. We averaged about 14 points a game, even with Indy handing us the ball all day to inflate that number. Wimsatt is no where near ready now so a big leap is needed by September if he is the starter.
