This is kind of interesting. This was updated today.
  • The following rankings listed by MaxPreps are not related or associated with process used for seeding the NCHSAA brackets
Then what the hell are these ranking and where are the ones that are for the seeding process??? This is one messed up system!

Well whoever made the decision is a da. There was nothing wrong with how it was. This new system gives teams no credit for finishing second in the conference and it is basically telling teams to go play the easiest non conference schedule you can because if you don't win your conference it is all based on overall record. Going to be total BS if Erwin gets a higher seed than Asheville.

Either they are too lazy to do the job or Maxpreps is paying them to be a part of this process

It's almost like the playoff committee got together and said "hey guys? You know how we got rid of the pod system because it was terrible? Well it appears the last couple years things have gone ok, so we need to f it up again. We can't have teams being properly seeded."

What happened to head to head
Head to head comes before Maxpreps ranking in priority for seeding but every team with that record has to have played each other. Since Triton hasn't played either of them, that means Maxpreps record has to be used. If you want to see the exact wording, you can go read it in the other thread.

So you think Erwin played a easy non conference schedule? Really?

In all honestly I don't care if we get one seed higher than Asheville. You still have to travel either way and play a good team. I would love to have another shot at Reynolds or Asheville, but that 1st rd game will be tough no matter what..

Another question that has yet to be answered from the "new and improved" playoff seeding system:

Let's say that Team A who is the #1 seed in the West meets Team B who is the #1 seed in the Midwest in the regional finals - where would this game be played since they are both #1 seeds?
I was told: first record, if both have the same record, then maxpreps rating. Not to for sure. Questions?

Looking back up this thread. There seems to be a lot of seeding questions from certain fan bases. Would that be because a certain team is projected to be small 3a. hahahaha.....
That is a conclusion one gets if they think its all about them......it's not!!!!!!!!!!!

He didn't say anything about Erwin having easy schedule. He was saying that basically they are telling you to play an easy schedule so you can have good record.

According to how I understand the seeding, head-to-head is only applied if ALL the teams in the tie played each other. Therefore in the case of Asheville-Erwin-MR it doesn't apply. Goes to MaxPreps rankings.

I have to be honest - I'm not sure how they will handle KM-Crest-Burns. My current thinking is that KM would get a #1 because they are the only team going AA. Then Crest would get a #1 because they beat Burns head-to-head in the A bracket. However, they may decide to only give whoever wins the drawing a #1 and treat the other 2 teams as at-large, since they aren't the conference overall champion. I couldn't find a similar case in the past 5 seasons for how they will handle this.

I understand this is how it's going to work, I just don't agree with it. Two teams tied in every possible way and one beat the other, I don't see how the loser of that game should ever be seeded above the winner.

I'm heading that way now, but in KM's case.....as the brackets stand now....KM will be 3 seed in the West win or lose draw. It could flip flop Crest and Burns.....IMO the flip is still necessary, in the event anything unforeseen happens before the Official NCHSAA Brackets are released on Saturday.

I want someone to explain to me how in the hell maxpreps has anything to do with NC high school football playoffs and what MORON decided to get them involved? Was something terribly wrong with it the last couple years?

I agree. Even if Erwin does get a higher seed it should never be decided that way. It really wont help us though. We still have to travel and would either way.

BD, I live just a mile from Sun Valley high school, I've seen them play and I truly believe that Erwin will beat them. Don't give up hope, Sun Valley doesn't have the strongest of defenses, the final may be 56-54, but Erwin can beat them.

Max preps came in to play because in years past you had defending state champions with 11-0 record going on the road because they lost a coin flip.

Nah.... I am sure there is money involved somewhere. NCHSAA is taking in money and doing less work !!!!
