Article said there's some 3rd party program that looks for student athlete betting activity that flagged them. For some reason, I thought that the rules now allowed this as long as the player didn’t place on the sport in which he played, but I guess I dreamed that.
Side note: why do I have a strong suspicion that we turned ourselves in on this one?
Somebody that has also bet on a 17ton of other things, but has not been caught doing it.Who the 17 bets on the NBA all star game?????
Actually it wasn't exclusive at all, I was able to open it and read it.Every school in the country has dozens of players who regularly bet in sports. Why am I not surprised the Clarion Ledger is pushing an exclusive story about 2 Mississippi state players? I look forward to their upcoming exclusive on Mississippi football players betting on sports. **
That's the Mississippi State way. The best thing Mullen did was to stuff Bracky Brett in a locker for 9 seasons.Side note: why do I have a strong suspicion that we turned ourselves in on this one?
A degenerate gamblerWho the 17 bets on the NBA all star game?????
Someone with a gambling problem.Who the 17 bets on the NBA all star game?????
How many athletes feel untouchable now? They don't like a rule...go find a sympathetic judge to overturn it. Get caught doing something less than above board...get it swept under the rug. When you've been catered to and made to feel like a king for over half your life, it'd have to be very easy to fall into the mindset you're above the rules. It is a petty violation, BUT, still an offence and an offence that I was glad that Sorsby got busted for.
But, how 17'n STUPID can you be as an athlete to do that? That's just pure ignorance on their damn part. There's you NIL money at work.................
Do you not recall the Will Redmond Mustang situation? That's the Mississippi State way. The best thing Mullen did was to stuff Bracky Brett in a locker for 9 seasons.
Side note: why do I have a strong suspicion that we turned ourselves in on this one?
All I can say is, we can't know about all things that happened under Mullen that *weren't* reported.Do you not recall the Will Redmond Mustang situation?
It did not sayAm I missing it, or do we know who the players are?
Is their salary and other benefits cut proportionally?I read up on the NCAA gambling rules during the Sorsby Saga.
All athletes are required to install an app on their phone that can detect gambling and other matters. Obviously, thats not a very reliable system, since Sorsby worked around it with no problem.
As long as you don't create any integrity issues by betting on your own team/sport, or point shaving, the penalties are not that severe. If you gamble less than $800, the most you will receive is a suspension for 20% of your season. Above $800, and it can get more serious.
Rebel readers everywhere clutching their pearls. None of their players would ever do such a thing.**Man NCAA really putting the hammer down on this. One player had to donate $66 to the charity of his choice & take a short education course. Clearly worth a sensationalist story by the CL.
Kalshi isn’t betting. It’s predicting an outcome by “buying shares.”So they were using Kalshi? How does that work on the state level? The only legal way to place a sports bet in Mississippi is to be present inside the casino. Period.
So all these headlines are wrong. They really didn’t make a sports bet under state law.Kalshi isn’t betting. It’s predicting an outcome by “buying shares.”
Maybe the NCAA and the government view prediction markets differently? I do not know that answer. So all these headlines are wrong. They really didn’t make a sports bet under state law.
Yep, I don't think we've had a player even get a parking ticket without it being headline news in the CL sports section.Clarion Ledger gonna Clarion Ledger. It will make the ESPN ticker by primetime.
Correct. State law only allows sports betting when you are floating inside the casino and They are very strict on making sure you are inside the casino. Even trying to do it on your phone while you’re in the hotel room nearby won’t work.I thought in Mississippi you have to be at a casino to bet sports on your phone. Otherwise it is not supposed to work in the state. I don't gamble so I don't have experience if you can actually bet on your phone. I work about a quarter mile from the Tennessee line and am curious if it would work here.
See, this why you need lawyers. If they met the requirements and just made an “investment” and not a sports bet then you sue the ncaa for calling it something it’s not and then you go after the clarion ledger for the same thing. Sounds like the state is on their side.Maybe the NCAA and the government view prediction markets differently? I do not know that answer.
Actually, they were not betting on the game but the winner of the 3 point shoot out.Who the 17 bets on the NBA all star game?????
