Well, we don't have the NIL funds to bring them up to the current standard of living for a college football player. They have to supplement their income somehow.
For some reason, I thought that the rules now allowed this as long as the player didn’t place on the sport in which he played, but I guess I dreamed that.

Every school in the country has dozens of players who regularly bet in sports. Why am I not surprised the Clarion Ledger is pushing an exclusive story about 2 Mississippi state players? I look forward to their upcoming exclusive on Mississippi football players betting on sports. **

All athletes are required to install an app on their phone that can detect gambling and other matters. Obviously, thats not a very reliable system, since Sorsby worked around it with no problem.
As long as you don't create any integrity issues by betting on your own team/sport, or point shaving, the penalties are not that severe. If you gamble less than $800, the most you will receive is a suspension for 20% of your season. Above $800, and it can get more serious.

How many athletes feel untouchable now? They don't like a rule...go find a sympathetic judge to overturn it. Get caught doing something less than above board...get it swept under the rug. When you've been catered to and made to feel like a king for over half your life, it'd have to be very easy to fall into the mindset you're above the rules.
Because we are still trying to turn ourselves in for one of the players using a bed, bath, and beyond 10% coupon that didnt belong to him 16 years ago.
All I can say is, we can't know about all things that happened under Mullen that *weren't* reported.

I thought in Mississippi you have to be at a casino to bet sports on your phone. Otherwise it is not supposed to work in the state. I don't gamble so I don't have experience if you can actually bet on your phone. I work about a quarter mile from the Tennessee line and am curious if it would work here.
Yep, I don't think we've had a player even get a parking ticket without it being headline news in the CL sports section.
Correct. State law only allows sports betting when you are floating inside the casino and They are very strict on making sure you are inside the casino. Even trying to do it on your phone while you’re in the hotel room nearby won’t work.
See, this why you need lawyers. If they met the requirements and just made an “investment” and not a sports bet then you sue the ncaa for calling it something it’s not and then you go after the clarion ledger for the same thing. Sounds like the state is on their side.
