This coaching should be ashamed of their decisions over the past couple of years. I know that i’ll get the classic ‘you must be Gio’s mom’ response.. but seriously.. this program never gave this kid the support or trust or confidence that he needed to really develop. He busted his *** and played injured last season, getting some experience after the Laviano nightmare, and went into this season as the ‘starter.’ And of course, they bring in Kyle Bolin because he played under Lamar Jackson and they thought that somehow meant something about HIS playing ability.. but of course it didn’t. So the program shoved him from starter to 3rd string.. another slap in the face.. but he kept positive and just worked and stayed ready. Then they finally put him in and he wins THREE big 10 games.. which most of you said we couldn't win.. and after a bad game against Indiana, again, Ash says the QB position is open again. And you tell me that Kill has nothing to do with it? or that we have an O line that can give him time in the pocket or that we have competent enough receivers to make plays.. maybe I’m just rooting for a fellow Michigan kid that played at a local high school, but If I were in his shoes, I’d give this program the same loyalty they gave me. None. The QB position is more than just completing passes. You have to give the offensive leader a CHANCE to be successful..and I don’t mean by just giving him the chance to start a few games.. maybe use the tight end a little more, give the guy more than 2 seconds in the pocket.. work around your receivers lack of speed and short comings and design plays they can understand and complete.. but no, let’s run up the gut over and over and over again.. and send receivers into double coverage or run them downfield against stellar DB’s and then question why passes aren’t being completed. The main reason for this diatribe is because I feel that the program did this kid a huge disservice by constantly dangling his role in front of him.. never really calling him the QB, never developing an offense around what they have to work with.. and it’s a slap in the face to see someone with so much talent see such disrespect. I’m a Rutgers fan.. but today, seeing the ‘future’ of the program play the way he did while Gio sat on the sidelines was an embarrassment, and I hope he transfers to a program that has their **** together. And this goes for every other player that these coaches treat like their expendable. I get that he wasn’t an Ash recruit.. but he is by far the best QB on the team.. he earned a lot of fans when the team played well as a whole, but the second the offense broke down.. its back to ‘Gio who?’
Yes, he made a couple bad passes in his FIRST FOUR DOWNS.. but you saw what the ‘future’ holds with Lewis. Hope this team can stand back and re-evaluate the things you don’t see on film.
