Balks can be called by any umpire in the infield.

Check swings should be able to be called by ABS as well, it always gets appealed to the appropriate foul line umpire anyway.

Catcher interference? Meh….line umps can likely judge that too.

I don’t think it would slow the game at all. You can have the ball / strike call broadcast in realtime over the PA, put on the scoreboard, signaled by another ump with an earpiece, etc. You already have at least 15 secs or so between every pitch with hitters stepping out / back-in, etc.

The check swing "challenge" is coming soon via hawk eye. This is in play in AAA this season actually(PCL only for now)

You say that. But even at the MLB level, 35-40% of bunt attempts fail. With such a low success rate, and marginal if any increase in expected runs even if successful, bunting it the dumbest play in baseball.

But there’s a 60-65% success rate, by far higher than any other success rate for any other hitting statistic. The best hitters in MLB history only reached base about 40% of the time.

Like anything else in baseball, it’s situational. Early or middle of a game with a weak hitter at the plate, it makes sense. Late in the game when you really need 1 run, it makes sense. Players who are really good bunters, and have lots of speed and can bunt for a hit, it makes sense. Anytime in a game where it’s a low leverage situation at any level of baseball (such as a comfortable lead, getting blown out, etc.) it might make sense just to get the hitter some live game reps. Meaningless game, like an SEC baseball tournament contest where you have nothing to really gain or lose from winning the whole thing or going 2 and Q, it might make sense for the same reason as above.

Other times? Not so much.

He's only thrown 78 pitches through 6 innings. No reason he shouldn't pitch the 7th.

Turned out he was on an 80 pitch limit. Couldn't have worked out much better.

When you’re giving up an out you better be successful pretty much every time to even make it barely arguable a bunt if a good call. Even then every analysis of the data says it’s not.

The odds of a successful bunt have decreased significantly as analytics has taken over lower levels of baseball. Kids just do not learn to bunt anymore like they did 25-30 years ago. Guys that can bunt like Mangum, Chance, Frei are really oddities today.

Saw him on TV, he had a long scrape area on his forearm, like a bloody strawberry slide mark.

He’s fine. I was sitting behind our dugout. He got some ribbing, but no tongue lashing for the effort. The save of the play at first was athletic!

With today’s technology, why can’t they create a light weight helmet with the ABS tech to sit on the umps head. Simply using a ding if it is a strike and a buzz if it is a ball. Then the home plate ump will get every single call correct.

Have never seen that before. Didn't know they were using ABS, much less letting it overturn calls. That's wild.

Anytime something like this is introduced, Miss State fans should rejoice and know after watching all these years that something like this will only benefit the bulldogs.
