Like anything else in baseball, it’s situational. Early or middle of a game with a weak hitter at the plate, it makes sense. Late in the game when you really need 1 run, it makes sense. Players who are really good bunters, and have lots of speed and can bunt for a hit, it makes sense. Anytime in a game where it’s a low leverage situation at any level of baseball (such as a comfortable lead, getting blown out, etc.) it might make sense just to get the hitter some live game reps. Meaningless game, like an SEC baseball tournament contest where you have nothing to really gain or lose from winning the whole thing or going 2 and Q, it might make sense for the same reason as above.
Other times? Not so much.
