I think this has went so well, it will be implemented in next years SEC games. It only takes a few seconds and can be a game changer all in the name of just making the correct call. I like it.

If you've watched any MLB games most everyone loves it. The only strategic piece of it is managing the two challenges you get.

That's fine. Batters already have plenty of advantages in the college game. A consistent zone is the key. They don't need to feel like they have to chase balls off the plate because they don't trust the ump.
How do batters have an advantage? 30% success will get you in the HoF. I like it too, just curious what the advantages are.

But how much does it cost to implement it for an entire season?

MLB can afford it. College baseball can't....or won't, because of it not being a money-making sport.

I was wondering the same thing. How does the infrastructure for this work and what's the cost? Presumably they could incorporate the hawkeye system that all parks have, correct?

I don’t think it costs that much. It’s just cameras and software.

Agree - this was the main thing I was concerned about in college. Glad it’s not too small
If you’re going to have amped up metal bats you better have a big strike zone. Otherwise get ready for a lot of 20-16 games with a lot of walks because pitchers are terrified to throw a strike.

The real answer is wood bats & a traditional strike zone. Only way college baseball ever has a chance to get widespread support.

Power 4 conferences could easily afford it. Other conferences probably not.
I looked it up. Professional level install costs $100k per stadium. Peanuts.

If Double-A minor league parks can afford it, it should be nothing for SEC / Power 4 programs to adopt it, and also to utilize it in the CWS at a minimum. I’d honestly make it part of the regional / super regional hosting criteria, and make it mandatory for the entire NCAA postseason.

If you can’t afford a $100k system in an era where college athletes are individually getting $5-7 million for a single season of play, then, tough shít.

59% reversal through 3 days of play. Was 61 at one point yesterday.

As this becomes more widely used (hopefully) new stats will be created. Second chance batting average after called strike 3 and second chance strike out rate for pitchers after a called ball.

Are ABS challenges separate from replay review challenges?

Seems they must be, and I didn't see where a team ran out of ABS challenges. Granted, I only watched our games, but I swear we lost at least 2 if not more, but continued to ask for them afterwards.

This, I love an expansive strike zone so long as it's generally consistent. Tight strike zones are bad baseball.
This reminds me of a co-ed softball game that I played in about ten years ago. I came up to the plate and took the first pitch which was clearly short of the strike zone, but the ump called it a strike. I could tell the next pitch wasn't going to make it anywhere near the plate, and after it bounced two feet in front of it, it was called another strike. I looked back at the ump after that one, and he just says... look man, there isn't a person here that came to this game to watch you walk

I think it’s great too. This should be on for every single pitch imo
