You're right - cowardly and ignorant autocracy would have been more accurate. In some states, throw in a heaping helping of leadership arrogance, for good measure...Communism ? For God sakes, this isn't communism.

FWIW, I caught a quote today on the radio from a university president of I think a B1G school today saying "we can take better care of our students in most cases on campus than if they were at home." I didn't catch who it was. I've been saying for a couple of weeks that there is virtually no risk to a 20 year old from this virus being on campus as long as they don't have some underlying risk factor. Even then, it's proven out that sheltering at home does not preclude contracting this virus whether it's from food or other products brought in to the home. The BEST thing we could do IMO for our country is to get college students out of their house and back on campus. High schoolers and below are more problematic but I think we're going to have to do it whether we want to or not.Remains to be seen on my end whether the decisions will be uniform across the conference. Iowa wants to practice in June but I haven't looked for weeks since OSU banned students from campus until August whether they will change that.
I have no idea what the conference will do with that situation but just a wild *** guess is that any guidance will apply uniformly even if it means we all ended up following the stragglers.

I honestly think college football players would be fine returning to a campus setting. The coaches and support staff would have to weigh their vulnerabilities carefully and take appropriate precautions. As it is, restaurants are open for carry out etc. Why couldn't dorms be open for athletes. Some are still in the town their campus is in living in apartments. IMO, they would be better off with access to the health and training staff available on campus. Likewise many athletes come from situations that aren't ideal and they would no doubt receive better nutrition than they would get at home. IMO, the reasons to keep campuses shut down get more and more flimsy with every bit of new data that is revealed about this virus.Yah I think we're more or less on track at this point to have football. We have some weird goings-on though. Like NCAA more or less announcing last night that we're going to extend dead period another month which will kill official visits and camps.
So now recruiting is dead, some schools have kids on campus for summer term, many do not. Does the NCAA allow practice to go forward like Iowa and other schools are on track to given the extension they are expected to announce? I think when you look at the B1G commisioners comments the other day, its fine for Iowa to plan to return to practice on June 1 or whatever, but with no real hard decisions being made for another couple weeks I think there's a substantive threat of a last minute change to the summer schedule.
Not sure myself, though. You also had the NFL announce like 25% paycuts and layoffs a week or so ago. For a league that is supposedly "on track" to have a normal-ish season, that doesn't seem like a good harbinger that they expect this to be a normal revenue type of situation. Whether that means they think there's a significant chance of less games, late start, cancellation due to teams contracting virus after games get going, fans won't come, whatever.
I think you have to somewhat put the bravado aside and follow the money. And right now the NFL is throwing 25% of the money out the window. And its not even that warm out yet.
