I hope none of them kill their families...or other people's families, for that matter.
IF you stop and think about it, young people are our best hope for developing a population immunity that would protect their families and at risk people in the long run. Yes, there is a very very minuscule risk that they could suffer an unusual CV infection that causes them great harm. I would contend that the risk of that is probably less than what some of them take walking down the street of their home town. The ones most at risk would be older professors and staff. I'm sure they'll figure out a way to mitigate that to some degree.

This will be great until one of the players dies. Had a 20 year old die in DFW today. I'm not sure of the rush to do this when many schools may not have anyone on campus. Maybe the players can promise to maintain 6 feet between themselves.

Florida tried the six feet separation in January 1996. That is why they will not do it now.

Life involves risks. Thousands of young people die of Influenza every year and yet hardly any of them will get a flu shot. I guarantee you that my very bright college aged daughter is ready to head back to Boston and to hell with the one in several hundred thousand risk of death for a teenager or early 20 something. We read the news reports about young people dying from this but you NEVER EVER hear what their predisposing factors are. They're trying to scare the **** out of young people by blowing up the story of one kid with cystic fibrosis or some other disease process dying.. There's a whole bunch of partial truths being told out there. My wife cares for COVID-19 patients and her limited experience with it so far even with some patients in their 50s is that they've largely been doing okay. The problem is IF they have diabetes or heart disease etc.

Life is about managed risks. We have to prioritize those risks. Football is not that important. Will we open up our society too soon and have more deaths than are acceptable? It sounds great until we are having decals dedicating the next season to one of our own on the 2021 helmets.

Opening schools isn't about football. IF they open schools then they should have sports. This is about mental and physical health. What the hell are millions of college aged kids going to do for months on end? Don't tell me get a job because there's none to be had unless they want to work in a packing plant. The online school thing is a joke. We're experiencing the joy of that right now at our house. They'll figure out a way to do it as safely as it can be done and roll with it. We KNOW now what we're dealing with. We KNOW now what to expect. The issues they have to figure out are how to mitigate risk for teachers and staff who may be in a higher risk group. Doctors and nurses are able to care for COVID-19 patients safely. I expect that teaching a class in person is gong to require some type of PP gear unless we're able to get a vaccine available by fall.

I would venture a guess that the risk of death from heat exhaustion > risk of death from Covid, for the players.

please try and educate yourself. look at published data on the ages that are at risk with the flu and with chinese virus. if you're over 70 some concern, be careful with public gatherings. stop the msm hysteria already, enough.

I would just like the flatten the curve people to admit that was a giant lie
I don't think it was lie. The problem though is that the government has taken things too far and their willing accomplices in the media are trying to prolong it. I won't go in to why they're doing it but it isn't to save lives. We HAVE to get businesses up and running again or it won't matter who dies from this deal anymore. The result of continuing this debacle is disastrous. Our country is facing an enemy right now much bigger than COVID-19. At some point we have to step up and assume some risk to our lives if we want to preserve our country for our children.

As it is, I'll be very surprised if we don't lose tens of thousands of businesses and as a result have thousands of people commit suicide over financial ruin. Right now IF something doesn't change VERY quickly we are going to lose a large percentage of our livestock producers in the state of Nebraska. When they start going under, we're gong to lose some banks. When that starts happening hold on for dear life. IF we don't change the trajectory quickly of our economy this will be a disaster far worse than COVID-19. Right now, I would give up my life to try to save what's left of our way of life in this country for my kids and their kids. My father's generation made that same choice when they went off to fight the Germans and Japanese. Time for the BOOMERs to step up.

I had a poli sci prof at UNL back in the 70s by the name of John Gruhl. He made Bernie Sanders look like a right wing conservative capitalist. Yeah. One of the few classes at UNL I didn't ace. He knew I wasn't buying his anti-military pro-communism drivel.

I literally just got off the phone with a lady in California who was diagnosed with the Chinese aids...and she had just gotten up (I know they're 2hrs behind me, but still) and she joked about how she gets to sleep in more now. Literally joked about it.

And then there’s this...
https://journalstar.com/lifestyles/...cle_c406bc55-580f-57c7-b858-d03a710c99ac.html
At some point we have to get back to living. Nobody wants to live in a bubble. If people stopped and thought about all the things that could be their undoing every day, it would eat them up. I remember thinking when I found out my wife was expecting our first child about all the things that could go wrong before she was born. It didn’t take long to realize that that was not how I wanted to approach it. Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst but don’t obsess over the possibility of it happening. This virus is no different.

We have neighbors who are in their 80's and not in great health. He is a vet and just wants to go play cards with his buddies. They're growing more and more impatient and uncomfortable with the notion that they are the reason younger families, with young children are suffering. We can continue to make grocery runs for them and help them, however we can and should, as neighbors. Communism is not a good look for Nebraska. Communism is not for everyone.
