Seems unlikely he'll get a waiver according to most of the College Basketball media guys on twitter.

Yeah, him getting an approved waiver is far from guaranteed. Unfortunately, Sarr’s public comments about the transfer won’t help matters either.

Here’s hoping UK’s athletic department can get really creative and that they can get Wake’s athletic department to tell the same story. Will need a tightly coordinated effort on this.

I have a feeling you guys are setting yourself up for an epic meltdown when he's denied a waiver. This thread will be 100 pages long in a few weeks/months after he decides to go overseas.

**** YEAAAAAHHHHH

Now with a proper big, Kentucky should be top5 for certain, and there's really no school that you can say for sure is better for next year. We have a complete team now.

Great news! We may have to wait a season to see him play for us, however. I'll never trust the NCAA to do something beneficial for us

With the covid and the coach being fired. I think these are unprecedented times and he'll be eligible. I hope I'm right.

Unfortunately, neither of those are valid reasons to grant a waiver for immediate eligibility.

The only way COVID would come into play for a waiver is if:
  • Some schools decided to play this next season while other schools didn’t, and this caused kids at some schools to be deprived of the opportunity to play
  • Or, if someone in the player’s family caught COVID and was left with long term health problems because of it, so the player was transferring to be closer to home
The other issue is that Sarr has stated in interviews that he’s transferring because of athletics reasons (i.e., he thinks UK is a better fit for his basketball aspirations).

With the transfer rule probably going to go into effect the season after next, I could see the NCAA just granting immediate playing time or I could see them really putting the screws to these kids knowing the immediate transfer rule will likely be passed. I guess it just comes down to the attitude of the NCAA.

big get if he’s allowed to play but I’m not going to get myself too worked up about one way or the other.

Its not gonna shock me if he can't play this year. But the NCAA has gotta do something. The G league is making them look ridiculous. This is basically free agency in college basketball now with all the transferring. I expect him to be eligible.

By the sounds of the ESPN article if the NCAA doesn't grant him a waiver and the new rule doesn't go into effect this year he is likely to go over seas as opposed to sitting a year. Not trying to be Debbie Downer but until we hear he doesn't have to sit I don't want to get my hopes too high just yet.

You will not see him play at UK in a year. if he gets denied, he has all ready stated, he will NOT sit out a year, he will play over seas.

Honest question, I have read a lot of people saying "Covid19, he will get approved". What exactly does the pandemic got to do with a basketball player transferring ? Does his current school put him at risk more so than another ? I do not think the Covid has any baring on a decision to approve or not. Now his coach talking him out of going pro then getting fired may. I hope the kid gets the waiver, he is the missing piece. And with the whole paying the kids now, it is suppose to be whats best for the player, IF Sarr feels UK is better suited for him and will help him, why not let him go ??? Cal is no dummy, he has done some homework on this, I do not think he plans by "maybe's" and "hopes".

I've had those thoughts, as well. After Kanter, I'll never assume anything. And he very well may go overseas if the waiver is denied.

Cal knows way more than any of us and I don’t Cal would’ve went thru all this to get a kid then turn around and have him leave in a few months. Just saying if Cal got him to commit then prolly a good chance he will be cleared to play.
Well, before you get too confident, you might consider this:

How could this be? We had no predictions from the "insiders" that this was happening.

It helps, but that was not the primary reason Baker and Green got a waiver. The special circumstances that got Baker his waiver were that he'd already been forced to sit out an entire season with injury, and Green only got a one semester season waiver and also had already sat out nearly the enitre prior season. Those circumstances don't apply to Sarr.
Thanks for that information.

I'm not even going to get excited about this.......yet. We all know how the NCAA is and they definitely don't like us or Cal. I'm just going to keep my hopes from getting up and pretend he is still deciding between us and overseas.

It would be a big kick in the balls to get excited to have the missing piece to a championship contender only to lose him if they deny the waiver. He is possibly the last option we have for someone ready to come in and contribute.

Very happy to get him and i hope he is immediately eligible. I think we are in the title hunt with him. He is probably the best transfer in the country and possibly better than anything we could have got out of high school and he comes with 3 years ACC experience. Please let him be eligible, however I hope we continue to look at other options.
