I mentioned Stitt's offensive rankings at Montana earlier but I just ball parked them because I didn't remember them exactly. Looked them up again to see. Remember also transition from a pro style to a spread.

Year - YPG - PPG

2017 - 9 - 11
2016 - 7 - 7
2015 - 28 - 42

Pre-Stitt

2014 - 52 - 44
Those rankings are against all other teams or just their conference?

Tom Savage had Sanu, plus Tim Wright, Tim Brown, and Mark Harrison in Year 1, plus added Coleman & Deering in Year 2 as targets. I'm sure a competent OC who wasn't hampered by an overbearing HC would've gotten Savage at or close to 3000, but unfortunately the OC decided to go with the Wild Knight.

I was thinking of Savage as well....but, I couldn't extrapolate what he could have done if he stayed and wasn't shell shocked from running for his life every down.

For what it is worth. In the car listening to the mens bball game at MSU. Hobbs was on with Recco and Boylan at half time. He said there could be an announcement on the OC in a day or two. They were talking about how great the basketball staff was and Hobbs then said Ash was putting together a great staff as well. He then added that the OC could be named in a day or two. So the wait MAY be coming to an end.

Day 23.
“The Hunt” has taken on a new meaning.
Well Illinois still hasn't named an OC yet either so we have company. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

TT and Arizona have OC and HC searches going on too but not as long. Really this week with the coaches convention and the Jan 9 10th assistant deadline was the week I mentioned we might see movement. Yesterday there was quite a bit. We'll see if we join the fray like Hobbs mentioned.

I posted a separate thread, but Matt Rhule seems to be on the Hunt for a job. Baylor's OC and DL coach look like good candidates:

Maybe RU could poach some of Baylor's coaches.
http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-40015230-4

SOURCES: Baylor coach Matt Rhule interviewed for the Indianapolis Colts head coaching vacancy earlier this week. Rhule, who completed his first season with the Bears in November, spent the 2012 season as the New York Giants offensive line coach. He is 29-34 in five seasons as a college head coach.

Had mentioned in another thread, a good DL coach candidate would be Baylor's DL coach, Elijah Robinson
http://www.baylorbears.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/elijah_robinson_1041907.html

Had also mentioned Baylor's OC, Glenn Thomas for RU OC job:
http://www.baylorbears.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/glenn_thomas_1041923.html

Thomas, who spent the previous two seasons as Rhule's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Temple University, brings to Waco seven years of NFL coaching experience and 11 years of coaching in the state of Texas.

In two years at TU, one as quarterbacks coach and the second as offensive coordinator, Thomas helped the Owls win 20 games and capture the 2016 American Athletic Conference title. Under Thomas' direction in 2016, the offensive production increased 46.9 yards per contest (from 366.7 to 413.6) and 2.6 points per game (from 29.8 to 32.4). In his first season at Temple, Thomas mentored junior QB P.J. Walker as he threw for 3,295 yards and 22 touchdowns on 230-of-395 passing. In two seasons working with Walker, Thomas helped the signal caller become Temple's all-time leader in pass attempts (1,410), completions (803), passing yards (10,273), TD passes (72) and total offense (11,100).

Prior to his arrival at Temple, Thomas spent seven seasons in the NFL. He was the Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach for three seasons after four seasons as an offensive assistant. During his tenure in Atlanta, the Falcons offense was its most productive in franchise history, and quarterback Matt Ryan soared to new levels each season.

During the three seasons when Thomas guided Ryan, the former first round pick out of Boston College threw for more than 4,500 and 26 touchdowns in each season, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2013 and 2015. Ryan cemented himself as the best quarterback in franchise history, supplanting Steve Bartkowski with 28,166 career passing yards and 181 touchdowns. It was under Thomas, however, that Ryan set career and franchise single-season highs in passing yards (4,719), touchdown passes (32) and completion percentage (68.6) in 2012.

Aside from his work with Ryan, while Thomas was in Atlanta the offense featured perennial All-Pros Roddy White and Julio Jones at wide receiver, Michael Turner at running back, and Tony Gonzalez, arguably the best tight end to play in the NFL.

Wow - clearly Rhule took the step to meet with the Colts - and if his staff is also actively entertaining career moves, it would really look like there is something wacky in Waco.

Maybe Rhule & his guys bought into the idea that they were coming in to clean up a super-fund site - - but now have come to realize that the fans and power boosters really only wanted them to just spread a few inches of topsoil and roll out luscious first rate sod - and make things all gorgeous in less than a real growing season.

The difference is Hobbs' staff was great from the start. Going on year 3 now and Ash is still trying to find the right pieces.

That running for his life was on him. He had no pocket presence instinct. As much as people want to bring up how bad the OL was at that time, Savage was responsible for a majority of those sacks. He always, and I mean always, backed up right into the outside rush when he saw pressure. Both he and Dodd would try to escape the rush roling late to the right even if the pressure was coming off that edge. They never escaped that outside rush.

We had no QB coach at the time. If there was somebody that could have coached these guys to stay in the pocket and step up, we would have had less than a third of the sacks. Teel and Nova both had the instincts to step up despite the lack of a QB coach teaching them(exception for Nova's last year with Fridge).

Our OL was never that bad. It was the lack of coaching for the QB position as well as the missing instinct for stepping up in the pocket. Outside of the Syracuse game Savages's Freshman year, the pocket rarely any inside pressure, and our tackles were good enough to push the outside rusher wide if the QB did not back right up into them.

Maybe he's the right guy, maybe not. I suspect coaching the guys you mention above would make many of the posters here look like a great OC candidate.

Looks like Mazzone is temporarily going into one of the consultant type roles at Texas like Dykes did and others do.

Texas: Former Texas A&M offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone is joining the staff at Texas in a quality control role tweets Anwar Richardson who covers UT.

Looks like that Mazzone report was a little premature. Kevin Sumlin has been hired as Arizona HC and will be bringing Mazzone with him as OC.

Bruce Feldman‏Verified account@BruceFeldmanCFB 4h4 hours ago
SOURCE: New #Arizona head coach Kevin Sumlin will retain DC Marcel Yates (they worked together at A&M) as Cats defensive coordinator. Noel Mazzone is expected to be the new OC. RBs coach Clarence McKinney also is expected to join staff.

Looks like Saban is losing another OC as well.

#Bills are hiring #Alabama OC Brian Daboll.
