One of the reasons I supported Coach Flood for way too long was because I thought he did things the right way but learned that not only was that not the case but he was sorely lacking as a coach, recruiter and leader.

Coach Ash is the real deal and the attached article helps to show why. On face value it might appear that befriending Matt Ruhle and Temple is not a good thing but I think it demonstrates the kind of thinking and approach that down the road will pay big dividends.

Recruits pay attention and at the end of the day if you can prove that you have the coaching and leadership chops to win, doing things the right way will matter.

Are we really recruiting the same players? How many players has Temple got that Rutgers wanted. Not a lot.

I don't consider us recruiting the same players just because Temple may have offered them. It's no different than UCon. We have everything they don't, including B1G membership, bigger fan base, and tv exposure. That puts us in a much different recruiting bucket.

albany: I understand your point -- and there's definitely some overlap -- but now armed with a full recruiting cycle to work with, I don't think we're targeting too many of the same players.

And if we are, there's little reason for a kid to go to Temple other than they love the school (which is actually a fantastic reason to go).

When Flood was coach we were recruiting the same players as Temple. Now that we have a real HC in Ash, Temple is back in the rearview again.

In the post Flood era, have we lost anyone to Temple or Cuse. Not 100% sure but I don't think so.

don't be surprised if we start adding additional games against Temple. We have them from 2020-2023 but would not be surprised if that is lengthened. Both teams have openings in the 2018 and 2019 schedules.

Pretty poor examples. Rutgers didnt go after Walker and Russo was ours until we changed coaches and he was no longer a fit for the offense.
I can't think of many players who had committable offers from both school and where we were in a head to head battle for a player and they chose Temple over us. Pretty much one kid and that is because both parents were legacies...

The Hunt does compete with the Illinois game on 10/15, though.

Just because they are from NJ doesn't mean we recruited them. They may have a handful of kids we offered. May.

They want to swim in our pool, and I respect that, but it's too deep for them. We are recruiting and getting different athletes than they are.

I love this "commitable offer" term that you only find on this site. Rutgers offered 6 players who chose Temple from the class of 16. And yes, Greg Webb is one of them and he is on Temple's football team. No members of the '16 class are listed on the official roster yet.

Instead of hoping Ash doesn't lose recruits to Temple, Rutgers would just be a lot better football team finding the players Temple has been plucking out of the Garden St for years that Rutgers didn't even know about....

Yeah- we would have loved him as would about 20 other top teams in the country. We all know why he made his decision and good for him. Though, my personal opinion is that he let his loyalty get in the way of a better decision. Everyone knows Ali's consideration

I guarantee you Ash isn't looking at Temple as a recruiting foe. That term is reserved for those schools in our conference.

Chappel Russell as well, though seems like his mother catching wind of what was going on in the program under Flood also played a part....and Nipsy, please. It's a bit different to play your season around 3 big games while playing UNC-Charlotte, UMass and Tulane the other weeks than it is playing in the B1G. Even your own fans recognize you might have the easiest schedule in the country this year..and how's that 'done deal' stadium coming along?

"Commitable Offer" is used pretty universally. 2017 is waaaay different from 2016 recruiting wise.
